Article: Virgin Australia Finally Refreshes Its Lounge Wines

I’m currently sitting in the Ahlan first class lounge at DXB, in the roped off section at the back where QR sends its F passengers.

In most respects, this is an impressive lounge. There’s a la carte dining with a great menu and prompt table service, as well as a full range of spirits and champagne. So you can imagine my surprise to see that 3 of the wines on the drinks list are the same as what’s served in the VA lounges! I think I’ll stick with champagne. ;)😂

Will be there in a month for the first time.

With such low level of wines (and food) available, is it even worth chasing status to get access the lounges? Airport facilities food options are getting better and better these days.
Great point. Only thing I really enjoy lately is the coffee. Other than everything else is meh. Agree at MEL the array of food and wine choices makes me wonder why am I chasing status.

My local Virgin airport lounge is Gold Coast. Haven't tried the wines yet as I can't go past the Balter XPA beers. Top shelf in my book.

Yes I actually kinda liked that lounge on my one visit (so far). Nice views also.

I'm soon to fly Virgin Business Class & sorry to hear about their poor quality wine. That said, I'm not that impressed with Qantas lounge wines (especially their sparkling wine); many lounges in the world actually serve Champagne!! I'm not suggesting free-pour, too much wastage. Other world lounges offer free basic alcohol & a small charge for more premium wines (that's something I would certainly pay for).

I think both VA and QF are poor generally (although I don't actually mind the VA sparkling). Lost opportunity though ...so many great vineyards in Australia. You would think they would have some bargaining power with Barossa Valley, Swan Valley, Tasmania. It would be a nice way forward as in all likelihood the lounges will not have so many guests with "status" over time (at least the VA ones perhaps).

Nothing wrong with free pour...many lounges offer it. Also it's ridiculous having to Q at Aussie lounges (well done within VA) just to get a beer!!
The pics show how BA do it!..and no
ne of this "oh dear it's not noon yet nonsense". !🤪IMG_20241214_163835.jpgIMG_20230810_121527.jpg

Happy with free pour, but would be great to see Champagne in Qantas lounges even if it's not free pour (other than Sydney 1st)
