Article: Unbundled Business Class fares that exclude perks like lounge access

If connecting to the a380 it would have had to have been after 2008!
Very good point … and even QF had the near-lie-flat pods in 2008.
Did QR possibly have a medium-haul setup for those short flights to/from Europe, with nastier spacing, sort-of like Business on QF domestic?

The OP was on EK, but I don’t believe QR had 2-4-2 either in business.

There were plenty of 747s kitted out in 2-4-2 business class when it was first introduced back in the late 70s and early 80s. That was like a current premium economy offering with 40 inch pitch.

BA might have had a recliner 2-4-2 config before the Ying-Yang. But that would have been a very long time ago.

UA had 2-4-2 J in very recent times. Rows of lie flat seats forward facing and rows of aft facing.

BA’s ‘super club’ began life as blocks of three economy seats that they reupholstered to make 2-2-2 on their 747s. I’m not sure the iteration after that, but then they went to 2-3-2 with their deep cradle seats. Before full flat in 1998.

They were competing against the likes of TWA that were already 2-2-2 on their 747s trans atlantic.

Actually just found this! The Evolution of British Airways Club World - London Air Travel

It doesn’t show or mention 2-4-2 recliners… which would have been a bit of a step back.

Since UA had it (still does?) other airlines likely had it … but if so, it’s hard to find using Google! :)

I think UA’s Connoisseur class might indeed have been 2-4-2 back in the early stages. It then went to 2-3-2 deep recliners. And then 2-4-2 flat beds (very narrow!)

I just don’t recall BA ever having that given they started with 2-2-2 (albeit in a 3-3-3 seat!)
