Thanks for the review.

I saw a vlog kf the flight in the other direction, ex MEL, and it was very underwhelming. Food looked pretty average - and I’ll eat anything!

Agree the business class fares to London are extremely competitive, but you’re mainly the flat bed for that. Soft product is lacking.

You can take your own alcohol on board which the crew will serve/supervise. But that only works from an outstation, and beware of LAG rules. You cannot bring alcohol into Brunei even in transit, so any alcohol must be consumed or discarded before arrival.

Have had 2 return trips in J and was told explicitly that staff will not serve any alcohol you bring on board and that it is disrespectful to pour it in their view. Was told you can mix it yourself discretely and then the empty bottles need to be put in a non clear bag and disposed in the rubbish. On our first trip we did buy a few mini bottles at MEL and do this but felt a bit guilty as the staff were friendly and amazing. Obviously can’t do it for the trip home as alcohol is confiscated even on transit. The next trip we didn’t bother at all, had plenty of decent enough non alcoholic beverages on board and food was pretty decent on all legs. Definitely take the stopover package if offered, really enjoyed that.
As a data point funny thing is we both joined up to the FFP for the sake of it and I normally don’t even read my emails from them but by chance the other day I opened one and despite last flying with pre Covid all my points are still active and I almost have enough to book a free flight. Perhaps their points don’t expire?
