Article: My First Cruise: Would I Book Another One?

I'm a solo traveler in general. I've also cruised. I've done 13 cruises solo and 10 with friends. From Bogan cruiselines (P&O) to Celebrity. I've cruised from Sydney/Brisbane/Melbourne to traveling overseas and taking a cruise from Rome and Miami. I like the big ships, so have not done the smaller lines.

A cruise is what you make it. You can participate as much as you want to or as little as you want.

I tell everyone, that you need to try a cruise at least once.
But make it a memorable one like at least a 7 day Med cruise that is usually calm waters.

At the minute I’m in the No camp and probably won’t book one again. My recent experience has turned me off cruises for now.
Never say never but will be sometime before I consider it

You ended up going? I think on Cunard? There are many other styles of cruise ships that might suit better. I'm unlikely to have MrP on a Cunard ship. Just not his style. But he loves Celebrity and Viking and we will shortly be trying NCL. Just because NCL is the only line that does this itinerary.

I hope you don't have high expectations for NCL

We don't. It's a trip around the Hawaiian Islands and a port every day for just 7 days. Just a mobile hotel. But we also have a Portugal one on them next year as it's the only one where the dates fit.

No, unfortunately we had to cancel. Mrs Ja$e’s mother passed away a couple of weeks before the cruise and we flew home from the US urgently to see her in her last days but to no avail. All accomodation and flights either refunded or given travel credits but Cunard just washed their hands of it all and were quite unsympathetic and abrupt about it although they did refund the drinks packages and excursions we lost the money from the cruise itself.
Fighting with TI so we will see how it goes
It’s just put us off for the time being but maybe down the track we will reconsider

Sad circumstances for you all, but yes, in the cruise world that's sadly standard practice. No sympathy.

Yeah, I do get it and at the end of the day it’s only money but I would have been absolutely stoked to get travel credits for 12 months and head back later this year or next. We were super keen for this cruise so had even considering flying back after the funeral and get to Seattle a day before the cruise but the funeral got put back a couple of days which meant the funeral was on the day the cruise departed.
We are heading back to the US next year and so the accomodation and airlines that gave us credits will get our loyalty and in turn we will spend much more with them next trip and in the future wheras we probably won’t give Cunard another cent ever again.
Mrs Jase had already said if she enjoyed this cruise we would look at booking several more through them in the future

Sad run of events @jase05 . From some comments above and elsewhere Cunard may have slipped. Like others, I hope you'll fid a good one to try again. I was firmly in the "never do a cruise!" camp until friends invited me to do one (also their first) and haven't looked back. Three this year, but all small, expedition style. Seaborne may suit Mrs Jase :)
