Article: How Different Airlines Approach Premium Economy Meals

Recently (early July) flew Singapore Air premium economy, Syd/Amsterdam & return Frankfurt/Sydney. Not impressed with overall experience, meals mediocre, still served in little plastic tubs, drinks with the meal appeared same as economy, no noise cancelling headphones Only thing favourable was the extra space & slightly more baggage allowance, not sure if that is worth the premium fare they charged. Unfortunately, I must say that we were underwhelmed with our experience & would think long & hard about using this product & SIA again.
We did the same trip PE with Singapore Air. Flew late June '22 & returned late July '22. The only "good" thing was the extra leg room, the seats not that comfortable & the meals very ordinary. We were underwhelmed by the product. In comparison we flew PE with QF several years ago (pre covid) Syd/London & were very happy with seats. meals & the extra attention offered by the FA's. Cheese & chalk ! Not sure if QF is the same nowadays though.

I agree, flew SYD/FCO R/T last year in P/C not impressed at all. Very please don’t ask us for anything’ service. SQ in my mind is extremely overrated.

Most people fly every couple of years and it takes multiple experiences to get an impression that replaced the prior impression, plus COVID put that on-hold for 3 hears … if youze folkz are saying SQ is overrated at Y levels of service, that rating is probably based on experiences people had a decade ago!

Or thinking about it, maybe the expectation of the Y+ product just doesn’t match SQ’s intent? Maybe if other airlines are offering more than just not having your knees rammed into the back of the seat in front & not having your shoulders wedged against those of your seat-neighbours for 25 hours, SQ will up their offering?
What is EK selling, it’s a pretty new product for them innit? The pix I’ve seen make it look a lot less gaudy/fugly than their F product a decade ago, but appearance means little.

We have only had one flight in PE. That was on the ANZ B787 Akl - Per and it was very good. Comfortable seats with plenty of leg and shoulder room. The meal was very good - especially compared to the horrible stuff we were served in Y on the Per - Akl leg. I think it actually was J food without the extra trimmings. It was excellent for a shortish flight. We were in our own little 'cabin' and it was well worth the sale price we paid. Looking at photos of what appears to be an underwhelming J cabin on ANZ, and also YouTube trip reports, convinces me that PE on them for a flight the distance of Per - Akl is more than adequate. Of course this was back in 2014 so things may have changed for the worse.

It depends on what the airlines offer for the Y premium such as different meals from Y and placed Y+ seats at the front of the plane (not on the wings) such as Emirates' Y plus in A380s.

Have to say … if the images on the EK site are indicative of the meals served, they’re WAY above the coughpy Y-spec TV dinner swill served in every airline’s Premium Economy a decade ago!

Flew SQ in P/E SYD/FCO R/T totally unworthy, terrible seats, service, meals. Very screw you attitude..

Flew SQ SYD-SIN in April last year en route to Rome in PE. Used book the cook but meals were still only Y quality.

I have also flown PE on QF and NZ both good with much upgraded meals.

PE on CI (Taiwanese airlines) had a nice seat but ordinary Y food. Flew VA to USA also before they upgraded it, only ordinary Y food (I believe later they got a separate menu).
