Article: Europe Doesn’t Recognise Australian Vaccination Certificates

This is the app I used to scan and link my certificate:
COVID Certificate – Apps on Google Playhttps://play.google.com › store › apps › details › id=ch....

There is an IOS version as well: COVID Certificate on the App Storehttps://apps.apple.com › app › covid-certificate

Planned to fly from Germany. But our plan has been slightly torn up for now due to some cancellations :(
Thanks so much for prompt reply. Leaving 5 May for Italy, Spain, Greece, UK, France. Any advice on when should apply for Cert from Geneva as had 3rd Booster 2 months ago? Not having travelled for 2 years, we need all the advice we can get!

Haven’t gone thru all the thread but my Aus certificate scans just fine with the VDS -NC checker and upload to Singapore ok, my reading of the EU protocols indicate all is good - love to hear otherwise

I'm afraid if you do go through the thread, you will hear otherwise. Your Australian international certificate will get you through border control but no further.

Prob should say, I will also travel with full medical history showing all vax and infection and recovery (it’s a pretty smart thing to have anyway if you travel) and the communication from gov about my positive result. Not at all concerned….. unless I get reinfected😳

I carry the list from Medicare of recent vaccinations as well as the doctor filling in the yellow WHO booklet. Not had to use them, but simple "back ups" of certification.

We left Australia in late November 2021 on a 10 week trip around the world. Luckily for us we organised an EU certificate through Switzerland before we left. It’s extremely lucky we did as the Australian international certificate was not worth the paper it was printed on in Europe. It has been recognised at airports but the QR code doesn’t work on trains, and at attractions and restaurant. Some people may be willing to view the paper-based international certificate (if they can read English), but many will just turn people away without a valid EU pass. We observe this time and time again with American tourists trying to use their CDC cards. The EU pass was hands down the best money spent so far.
Hi im heading to Germany end of August could you please tell me how i can get one of these EU passes.

Not quite, you need to apply to the Swiss to convert your AU international certificate to their version. Once you do that, they will send you a PDF with a barcode which can be scanned to the app I sent before.

The link to the conversion process: Bundesamt für Gesundheit, Einreiseformular für die Schweiz
I am not sure how to do the paid process. I only did using the free option available through the Geneva Canton.

You need 3 things before applying:
1. Copy of passport
2. The AU international certificate.
3. Proof of visiting Geneva (flight ticket/non-refundable hotel booking, etc.).

Hope it helps.

We completed a trip in December 2021 to Munich, Milan, Zurich and San Francisco to visit family and friends for Christmas/New Years. In Germany and Italy our International certificate was accepted, but QR code could not be read.Recommend having a hard copy, as the digital copy was not always accepted and does not always show three vaccinations. In Munich you needed a RAT within 24hrs to visit museums. Be sure you have your passport, too. In both countries there were frequent, free RAT test stations. To enter Switzerland you need to fill out an on line declaration, to include where you will be staying and have a PCR with in 72 hrs. We took the train from Milan to Zurich, which I recommend, but there were no boarder checks. The next day the Canton contacted us send them a digital copy of our PCR result. At the tourist office at the main train station we converted our AU international certificate to the Swiss digital certificate ( 30 ChF). This certificate is good in the EU for one year. We are returning to Europe later in the year, so we are set.
Afternoon, just wondering if you had to quarantine on arrival In Munich. I've been on German website and its saying we have to Quarantine for 5 days hopefully this is no longer the case. I fly out end of August so heaps of things could change.
Cheers RTW

if you upload your vaccine certificate you dont need to quarantine from Australia

It comes electronically (via email and into the app as well if you want to install that). You can scan the QR code from the email certificate into some other countries apps (e.g. France) although I don’t think it’s necessary.

The expiry listed on it is one year after the date of your most recent shot. But it’s caveated as being the expiry date for the pass ‘in Switzerland’. I think it might be up to other countries how long they accept the certificates to last (I think the EU standard is currently nine months).
Hi Mate, question. Once you have the French pass does that then let you into Italy and other countries.

If you’re not traveling until August, I think you’re wasting your time educating yourself now as things will most likely change, possibly a number of times between now and then.
Your Australian international pass gets you into the countries. You need the European pass for local use once you’re in the country.

Hopefully for the better Bryce. Just want to be on top of things but will take your advice and revisit in July.

Hi basically yes, as far as I know. As in, it should be interchangeable across Europe for their vaccine passports etc. Your Australian one will work for borders though.

Switzerland is removing most COVID restrictions from today, including the requirement to show a Covid certificate to enter venues etc.

Good news, but I hope this doesn't mean they'll stop issuing Covid Certificates to tourists...
A few other Euro countries have or about to drop restrictions also (NL, DE,..?). I’m heading to the UK late March and then Germany early April. Keeping a close eye on things but I was going book the ZRH Hilton prior to applying for my Swiss pass…
