Article: Europe Doesn’t Recognise Australian Vaccination Certificates

Yeah, I saw those. I meant to mention that peeps had mentioned the pharmac_ route in Germany but it doesn’t seem to get as much mention here as France.

It want entitle clear if the “Luca” app was official or 3rd party… Presumably you could use any EU app once you have a QR code?
I previously wrote "Luca is the official German government app" but I'm editing as may be wrong on that. I'm not sure if if's really third-party or just outsourced third party. It's the only one I saw wherever I went in Germany though.

I converted my Oz vaccination certificate to a French one at a pharmac_ (someone else said it can take a while to find one - the list of all the pharmacies that do it is on the Ministry of Health website here: How to obtain a vaccine pass in case of vaccination abroad?). Then scanned the QR code on the paper certificate I was issued into the Luca app, which then was accepted as proof of vaccination wherever I went within Germany.

Any EU app should be accepted anywhere in the EU, but it's just quicker and easier if you use the local app and saves any potential source of confusion, especially if you don't speak the local language or wherever you are doesn't speak the language of the other EU country whose app you are trying to use.

Rumours the UK will soon be ditching the PLF for fully vaccinated. No timeline yet but it's coming apparently.

and face masks at airports optional from the 16th.
I will still wear an N95 where I feel it appropriate. At least until I (hopefully) get my negative PCR 3 days before departure to Australia.

It's been a paper-war rollercoaster with travel requirements these past few months, now UAE, Europe and UK (our itinerary) are abolished. The only remaining form is the Australian DPD requirements, but we have a while before that may also change.

so apparently 20th March, most european countries will remove covid passport rules:

Portugal Removes Vaccine Passports For Hotels and Restaurants

Having just returned from 6 weeks in Netherlands, France and Belgium, I was surprised that my AU International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate QR Code was not recognised (except when checking in for airline flights) in European countries. However, in practical terms this did not seem to be a big deal - all venues accepted visual proof of my certificate which contains passport number and vaccination details. In Belgium, I was able to use these details also to generate for free a QR Code on the Belgium Covid app. In France, the Belgian code was not recognised, and yes, you can obtain a QR code for the French Pass Sanitaire at selected pharmacies, but it is a blatant ripoff at Euro36 - I refused to obtain, but in practice showing visual proof of the AU international certificate was all that was required during my two weeks in Paris. A pity our Australian Government has (once again) let us down in not ensuring the AU International Certificate is compatible with Europe’s standard.
Hi Barry, How did you manage to covert your Australian Covid certificate into the Belgium Covid app?

In case this is useful to anyone, I noticed a sign outside a pharmac_ on Neuhauser Straße in Munich the other day (I don’t remember the name but it was about halfway between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz) that they provide Covid certificates to internationals.

Any recent experiences in Germany getting Oz -> EU certificate at a pharmac_ etc?

The German embassy in Australia says to do there conversion once in country but no guarantees as they don’t have a formal process…

We’re going to Berlin in April and pondering options now that the Swiss tourist method is closed and we’re not planning on ”staying” in Geneva in the meantime. Kicking myself I didn’t apply at the time this thread started but we consciously waited until after our booster - alas getting Omicron for Christmas delayed that 😔. Actually, I thought about getting the free FR pass when it first opened last year….regrets…

The article at post #179 suggested that some of the restrictions might be gone by the end of March anyway but if they’re not and we can’t get into anything without an EU pass, a Plan B (another destination) is required!

Alternatively, we’re in the UK for a few weeks first and while there’s no requirement for a pass there, what are the Brits doing when they travel within the EU? Is there a way to get into their equivalent system?

I'd be interested in knowing where you get the AU-EU certificate done in Berlin. We're arriving there from Australia in June.

I'm not sure how strict they are there. But FYI we're currently in Italy and although a few places have struggled with our QR codes not 'reading', no-one has turned us away as yet. They just take a good look at the dates to ensure we've got what we need using the international covid cert via GooglePay.

I think as restrictions are easing across the board they aren't as pedantic about 'evidence', so much as 'double-checking'. So see how you go.

Germany (and Berlin specifically for us) are scrapping most restriction from this weekend but we may well try and get the EU QR code on arrival in just over a week.

Hi everyone, I realise the rules within Europe are currently very fluid when it comes to vaccination certificates and entry. We are traveling to Switzerland, then Italy, France and Spain from mid May. I have read about obtaining the Swiss Covid Certificate prior to travel. I have also read this is compatible for use in these other countries. Although Switzerland has eased the need for use would it be prudent to get Swiss Covid Certificate for use for travel to and museums, transport, restaurants etc. in any of these countries. thanks for any help.

Apparently as a foreigner you cannot get the Swiss one anymore, as they also have lifted restrictions.

Thank you. Could I ask what you would suggest what we would need. Thanks.
