Sigh...yes. Maybe a hotel would be best. I just wish they had one in the terminal or close by.

There are some "close by" though still about 5-10 minutes or so by taxi. Likely not cheap-ish, but so there.

Main issue (in my opinion) is that you'll likely only be there for a mere few hours (perhaps about 2). Up to you to decide whether that's worth the price you pay. Also keep in mind that some hotels (or not really hotels) may not have someone in attendance at the time you want to check in (or check out) and you may need to follow special instructions / call or write ahead to notify of this fact.

Also I've never heard of paying a taxi driver more to act as a guide. My guess you'd be paying them a fair bit for it, as you're still going to pay the prevailing rates for covering the distance travelled alone, plus tip. Finally, what's to see, tour wise, in Perth in the dead of night?

I have moved this thread to "Your Questions" as it's more about an EK flight and a question on what to do in PER, than a discussion about the QFFP.

Arriving Perth from Dubai at 1am....then departing at 5.30am, what to do in b...

You wouldn't pay extra to have a taxi based tour. Simply ask the driver to take you to some of the local sights - in this case kings park, CBD and northbridge. You pay what is shown on the meter. Of course, in Perth just asking the taxi to take you to the casino will probably result in an extensive tour.

.

If a gold frequent flyer has no idea about the oneworld alliance surely it can't hurt when someone includes more information which someone might find helpful?

To answer your question. The advice provided was not about the one world alliance. Everyone knows they need to check in and get a boarding pass.

The point was not that the two issues (check-in v oneworld alliance) are in any way similar, but that the thought processes may be similar.

As hard as it is to believe that a platinum or gold Qantas frequent flyer can be completely unaware of the oneworld alliance, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if someone had no idea how to check in a bag or obtain a boarding pass, especially if they aren't familiar with Australia.

Thanks, it is a QFF award booking and the "odd" routing is due to there being no availability in business directly to Melbourne on the way home.

There are some closer to the Domestic Terminal on Great eastern Highway. Nothing particularly flash but I'm sure you could get a room for the 2-3 hours you'd need.

I have done a similar transit at PER at that time of the night a few times when Qantas was flying the late SIN-PER flight and also HKG-PER.

Do not rush through immigration. Browse duty free shop. Be one of the last through immigration and then collect luggage and go through quarantine. Then wait around international terminal until ~3:00am as there seems to be a little more activity here at that time of the night.

From memory domestic does not open until 4:00am so cannot remember if you can get inside the terminal before that time. I do remember waiting around the check-in area for check-in to open as the kiosks were not in full swing at that time.

I've commented before that people on this forum exhibit poor reading comprehension skills at times, and this just confirms it.

Have to side with AP on this one, sorry
