I will be arriving on and Emirates flight from Dubai to Perth at 1.15am with a connection at 5.30am. I don't know what to do as I don't think there is an airport hotel. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks! :)

Is the second flight domestic? If so you will have to change terminals which will take 20-40 minutes

Re: Arriving Perth from Dubai at 1am....then departing at 5.30am, what to do in betwe

Nothing to do at either the international or domestic terminals, as to hotels within walking distance.
As mentioned by Clazman, the 4 terminals at PER airport are all separate, some are joined by walkways, but T1 to T2/T3/T4 are all reachable by either taxi or transfer bus.
If its VA 552, you do need to transfer to T3. OR QF.
If its a VA WA regional flight, its T2.
Maybe an hour for immigration processing. Faster for Smartgate if you have Australian or another eligible passport.
Transfer bus operates 24 hours a day.
T1 is open 24 hours a day, so after you get immigration processed, you could bide some time in the international terminal, before going across to the domestic terminal using the 4am bus. The trip across is about 15 mins duration, I have done it.
T2/T3 and T4 do close during part of the night, just something to keep in mind.

Make your way to domestic terminal. You'll see a bunch of people asleep on the floor. Spread out next to them and do the same :)
The casino will be open and is 10-15 mins in a cab if you want to go do something - can get food and drink there.

Re: Arriving Perth from Dubai at 1am....then departing at 5.30am, what to do in betwe

...and you have plenty of time to change into a hi-vis vest

Re: Arriving Perth from Dubai at 1am....then departing at 5.30am, what to do in betwe

If its a VA WA regional flight, its T2.

Not all of them, I fly Perth to Kalgoorlie regularly on VA regional ( they use mixture of 737s and old skywest F100s ) and always fly from their main domestic terminal T3.

T1 to T2 is certainly walkable - they're right next to each other. T3/T4 requires the bus etc.

mmm classy ;)
am looking more to stick around the airport really but thanks for the ideas!

yes, flying on to melbourne.

its qantas, thanks. if T1 is open all night i guess i can entertain myself there for a few hours.

Just remember it is Perth , so the first issue is the international terminal is under renovations.

Secondly there is little shopping, food, coffee shops

Re: Arriving Perth from Dubai at 1am....then departing at 5.30am, what to do in betwe

Next question, is it a thorough ticket, ie, is the EK metal a QF flight number flight, so you earn QF SC if you are a member of the QF FF program.
Also, if you are issued a BP at DXB for the DXB to (PER to MEL) flight, you could as mentioned go into the city, grin, tell the taxi driver you will pay him extra if he does a drive around for you if you have not been to PER before.
If EK at DXB won't issue a PER to MEL BP, you would need to either use a kiosk to check in, or check in in person, ...
Do you have luggage to be moved from the international to the domestic flight or HLO?
If you have an Australian passport, and tick no for all the boxes as no, and use Smartgate, usually they will just collect your incoming passenger card and Smartgate ticket from you. Thought in your case, they might ask you why you have done the odd routings, seeing that there are direct flights from DXB to MEL.

Handy thread! I might have to do the same in reverse in a few weeks time... arriving PER late night from MEL and connecting to CX's 0700 departure the next morning. I guess CX check-in opens three hours before? Might not be too bad...

So many things wrong here. Do you think people are children or something? Do they don't know how to arrange their flights and points earning for themselves; don't know how to check in? Can't decide for themselves what they want to do in Perth in the wee small hours?

A thorough ticket does not mean a QF codeshare on EK metal so that it earns QF status credits. It is completely unrelated to earning. If you want to know about earning, the next question is not "is it a thorough ticket".

Tick no on the incoming passenger declaration? Absolutely stupid advice. That is a legally binding declaration that needs to be answered honestly. The answers on that card make no difference to ability to use smart gate. Follow your advice to answer no, when they should answer yes could result in a big fine!

I agree with Medhead. AusPooch's advice to "just tick no" on the pax card is very dangerous advice that can result in significant delays and fines.

Pooch, its your post .... but I would recommend you edit it.

This has to be up there with one of the most stupid pieces of advice ever offered.

I'm sorry if that's insulting, but it had to be said.

Simply read the forms and tell the truth. The instructions to use SmartGate are given to anyone who has an Australian biometric passport.

Arriving in the dead of night in PER doesn't leave much to do. The layover time is far too short to consider a hotel room. Qantas domestic lounge doesn't open, I think from memory, until 90 minutes prior to first departure.

You could cab it into the city but not much will be open except the smattering of places to get food, some clubs and Northbridge (which might have lockdown by then anyway). If you have luggage, carting that about could be a pain. The casino was mentioned - also requires a cab ride but at least might be slightly more comfortable place to waste some time.

Re: Arriving Perth from Dubai at 1am....then departing at 5.30am, what to do in betwe

To be fair to AustraliaPoochie, I didn't read her posts as advising to lie on the declaration form, merely part of the more detailed instructions... if you ticket 'no' for everything that is 'no' and use smartgate you'll be out fairly quickly.

I didn't see the advice as being applicable to people who might have something to declare.

I agree with you, I think members are adding "just" to the reading of the sentence. To be fair it just says if you say no, any inference is made by the member not AP.

Im not sure how you can be so certain with deciphering the sentence. The Advice does say "and tick no to all the boxes as no". That is so mangled that it is possible to interpret it as advice to just tick no, out of expediency. A number of people have read it that way. The fact remains use of smart gate is not dependent on the passenger declaration.

Also in my experience speed through quarantine is not dependent on declaring or not. I declared wood products last Friday and was out of there in 3 minutes. Last time I declared nothing, they x-rayed all my luggage and had a big chat with me. So much for ticking no....

I guess in light of the rest of your comments on the post, you were kinda down on AusPoochie from the start. Does AusPoochie think people are children? I don't think so... just AusPoochie's style of writing is usually more descriptive. And to be honest there are Gold and Platinum Qantas frequent flyers who come to AFF asking if they can use their Qantas points for any other airline aside from Qantas. Or truly surprised to learn they can access a oneworld lounge aside from Qantas'.

If a gold frequent flyer has no idea about the oneworld alliance surely it can't hurt when someone includes more information which someone might find helpful?

Re: Arriving Perth from Dubai at 1am....then departing at 5.30am, what to do in betwe

Wow that was a bit of a detour off topic - it seems like the reality is that with clearing customs and terminal transfer there will only be a short amount of time which is likely best spent 'relaxing' in the surrounds of the domestic terminal

I suppose you're correct.

It can't hurt to tell a gold or platinum frequent flyer that they can pay a taxi driver to drive them around, that they need a boarding pass to get on a flight, and delve into how they need to be responsible for their luggage.

Also, if you are issued a BP at DXB for the DXB to (PER to MEL) flight, you could as mentioned go into the city, grin, tell the taxi driver you will pay him extra if he does a drive around for you if you have not been to PER before.
