I call BS. AS miles are flexible but have never been THAT flexible. Agents are quite cluey. If the loophole is closed why is he so cagey about how he booked it?

Also he said he booked a return US to Asia with a random routing for 100k. Its 100k ONE WAY even if he was able to get a crazy routing. AS is not USDM.

He also took out 15 CCs and only earnt 100k points?!?

EDIT actually reading more into it it can be booked online so sounds like an error with the website with both routing and pricing. Not really a loophole!

If we had all been so negative most of us would have been unable to get many of the deals we have found via this forum. In fact many don't believe me even now, I doubt Sam Huang really cares if we believe him or not!

Now that I read his blog, it seems plausible. Just read on his website explaining a bit about his RTW trip. https://www.topmiles.com/news/article/9/questions_and_answers_from_the_business_insider_article
Well, he used 200,000 Alaskan Miles not 100,000. Not sure of the loop hole and how he managed to get so many different stopovers but good on him for getting that massive RTW trip, too bad Emirates has closed that loop hole.

Maybe he bought separate flights at certain stopovers, which wasn't mentioned in the blog/article? E.g. his flights to Rome and Mauritius seems like complete detours and return trips to/from dubai.

Not saying it happened, but sometimes "glitches" appear in FF booking engines that allow you to book things, even though the "rules" say no.

ie I have booked via BA 3 sets of inter-Europe flights for 2 in Business as 0 points deduction....On SQ have booked Suites for the cost of J, have booked First Class when it was not meant to be bookable etc...

I recently completed a Round The World in First Class, it cost 119,000 SQ points + 201,000 QF points + 40,000 UA points + a combined $2,300 in taxes. Now I wish it was 100,000 points and $300 in taxes.

The blog post reads very much like an advertorial.

And would a frequent flyer really write this?
"Since the A380 is the world's largest commercial aircraft, I expected its four engines to make a large roar, but the engines barely made a murmur. It was the smoothest take off I've ever experienced"

Even if it isn't just advertorial for the author's business or the airline, unfortunately I find that the relentlessly commercial style of writing makes it a tedious read. Not up to the same standard as TRs on this forum.
