Are some AFF members "blind" to the Foibles of their 'favorite' carrier?

Re: First refurbished 767 enters service end of the month

The endless blind dedication to QF is about the only thing I don't like about this site.

Cripes. Have a look at the titles of the current threads on the QF forum. I don't see much 'endless blind dedication to QF' there! Especially the ones saying to the effect "I'm leaving QFF for Cathay (etc)".

But seriously, if you are looking for people liking or loyal to QF, a QF frequent flyers forum is likely to hold more of them than, say the VA, AA or BA ones :)

What makes you think that it is "blind" dedication? Every consumer makes choices based on many factors. That some choose QF over VA or SQ or any other airline for that matter is their call. QF are obviously doing enough right in the eyes of those who choose to fly them, to outweigh any perceived negative aspects of the product.

What I think is more concerning is the "blind" slagging of airlines (QF, VA or otherwise) by those that have limited or no experiences of the products. Hyperbole not backed by any facts, or just outright lying about an "experience" to generate bad-will.

People complain and complain and complain about QF and QFF yet continue to use/invest in it.

I know its the biggest airline and FF program in Australia but it irritates me how QF-centric this site is. So many endless threads outside the QFF forum on AFF from members who seem to think the only international route in the world is to LHR on QF.

In fact lately there's been more threads about Virgin, a little dedication there, and a few posters who seem to do nothing but complain about why everyone is talking about Qantas, when they're not.

I do, but that's because I fly them, I didn't realise there was a crime in that?

I'm struggling to understand where you are coming from. This is an 'Australian frequent flyer' site and yes, as you say QF is the biggest airline and has the biggest FF program in the country. So, what are you expecting? QF comments being over-whelmed by, I dunno, LH Miles & More? There is "another site" if you want a more nationally diverse discussion. You'll find me (and many others here) there too :)

Yes, I complain about QF and continue to use it; I complain about Air Canada and use it when it suits; I have been known to complain about Lufthansa but am going half way around the world with them in a few weeks. Boy, you should look at the other FF program pages on the "other site" and see how everyone coughes about their airline! (Even VA...... ) Its an international sport.

Re: First refurbished 767 enters service end of the month

Why has this been split off into a new thread?!?

it is interesting to see how the sentiment has changed on AFF over the last 3 years - when I first joined there was a very heavy anti-DJ sentiment which has slowly changed as they have been repositioned.

In respect of things being QF-centric I think it's testament to the reach of QFF, it draws you in like a moth to a flame then traps your CC-spend and 'handcuffs' your flights. As long as the benefits outway the costs I don't see that changing too much (IMO of course) and that was fine for me when I was SYD-based. Of course things are different now in HK.

Has the sentiment towards JQ changed as well??

Also remember we are all different, our experiences are different so it is no wonder we come to different conclusions.
For example some think of me as the resident AA fanboi.but that is because most of my experiences with AA are favourable.Of course I rarely fly in an AA Y cabin and for longhaul fly F-usually an award but sometimes upgrade.
So for me I am no longer flying DONEs.I do a <13000 Circle Asia and get AA F awards to the USA and next year on to Europe as well.Saves me many dollars.
As to the FA dragons on AA I have only met one.I firmly believe in the saying "as you sow,so you reap".

I left QFF partly in 2002 and virtually fully in 2006 but yes i still fly QF frequently as it is a great source of AA miles. And I have only flown to LHR once on QF and that was in 1996.

Yep there are clearly some people who work for either airline who post on here as they defend each airline far too much

Seems to be more VA love than QF even though personally I find VA to be a joke

I do wonder sometimes. Is medhead an airline employee?*

On the whole I think the balance is pretty good. Lots of healthy debate.

I think it has to do with the high number of QF frequent flyer members and simply personal experience and that obviously varies widely between individuals. I personally have pretty good experiences with QF and the few times I venture to Virgin, I'm rather disappointed- different with some other airlines like EK or SQ where QF can learn a lot in my opinion. But then again- I have good friends (and know there are a lot of members on here) who think exactly the opposite. That's the reason for a forum such as this, to exchange different opinions and viewpoints, isn't it?

When it comes down to it- no airline is "perfect" and there's issues to have with all of them (just thinking about priority boarding, priority luggage and otherwise misleading or simply lying advertising by QF- the non-suites "suites" in First class just as an example...) so if you're simply unlucky by chance, you might as well turn into an irrational fan boy for the competitor.
