Are codeshare flights always able to be booked

I was trying to find some flights in Asia to complete my DONE4.The flights must be AA, QF or BA because of restrictions on my ticket. I was looking for a SIN -NRT on AA. Interesting, that if I look on the AA website and try a SIN-NRT, I get AA codeshare SIN-HKG-LAX-NRT. All flights are different AA flight numbers. So I thought I would go SIN-HKG instead as there was a AA codeshare flight number. However, I can't find it.
Is there some restriction with codeshare flights that they can only be booked when travelling from one destination through to another - such as SIN-HKG-LAX?

possibly.

For example, a codeshare with Qantas exists (or did exist) BNE-SYD on a daily JAL flight.
However, this was only ever bookable in conjunction with an overseas trip.

Different countries have regulations over who can fly and sell fares between them and other countries (or domestically).

Another example, The BA Codeshares on EI are only bookable with an international connection (eg. NRT - LHR - DUB). They won't let you book MAN - LHR - DUB for example.

I'm yet to find out if Qantas can sell the BA codeshare on EI with a RTW ticket. My fear is that QF will book on the EI flight number, since EI flights can be booked. As far as I'm aware you can't get the bags through checked if they have the EI flight number, nor earn status credits.

The ticket has a corporate QF discount applied. The rules are I can only use QF, BA or AA flights.. As I will probably only ever do DONE4's (SWP, ASIA, Europe and US) it's really only Asia which is the problem. Which is a bit of a pity as it's the closest to home.
But for the discount I get just somewhere around 24%, it's worth it . As the company pays for a D class business return to JFK which is around $8100, I only need to make up the difference of $800 to the DONE4 at around $8900.

I would think that so long as you travel Trans-Pacific on AA (or CX using AA codeshare) then you should be able to book the AA codeshare in Asia.

Unfortunately for this trip I am returning to Aus via LHR-SIN-BNE. What I was thinking of doing was LHR-SIN-NRT-SIN-BNE.

You will need to ask the issuing airline if it is permitted. I assume you have some AA content anyway.

Yes. But only on my US 6 segments.. I was flying AA from ORD to LHR but then BA and QF back home. Also I noticed if I put in JFK-SIN in the AA PC travel desk software, it will either take my JFK-NRT-SIN or JFK-HKG-SIN or JFK-YVR-HKG-SIN. and then the reverse for SIN-JFK.
So next time I will try going over to the US via LHR and back across the pacific.. Then I can do the JFK-NRT-SIN-SYD..

Yes - but in my case with restriction on which airlines I can use. We can also use DCIR fares. Again, with the restriction of airlines we can use..
