Hi All,

Couldn't get any suites for less than 630k :( (will have to wait until the return leg!!) so moving onto to business, looks like either 777-300ER Business, 11 Hours total travel time or A380 Business 19 hours total travel time. Wondering if the seats on both flights are the same? Or is worth the extra 8 hours stuck in SIN (will be in SilverKris) to be on A380 Business?

Cheers.

This is a bit of a mess right now. You need to check what aircraft it is, you can use the Expertflyer for this. A380 has the standard biz lie flat. Not all 777s are the new conifg, new seats. Often it is the old B777, 2-2-2 across and the 18:20 flight has the A330, which imo is better than the older B777, 2-2-2 config.

It is hard to tell from the seat maps.

1-2-1 biz conguration will be definitely new seats.
2-2-2 on A380, 777ER wil be the Regional biz seat which is very adequate and nice (that's all we get here in BNE)
The 2-2-2 in the other aircraft it is hard for me to know.

Looks like Melbourne is a bit of a lucky dip unless prepared to wait the extra time.

IMHO 8 hours even in the Silver Kris is too long. When I'm faced with this I avail myself of the left luggage service and spend 6 hours on Orchard Road or in Little India. This leaves me 2 hours back at Silverkris for shower, meal and then boarding.

Thanks guys, just going from seating maps on SQ booking page. There's a few 1-2-1 configs so I'll just grab one of those.

SQ have had consistency in operating aircraft for at least 6 months now on the MEL-SIN route (in terms of particular flights being consistently operated by a specific aircraft type), other than in exceptional circumstances.

Long haul fully flat product on SQ 227/228 on A380 and 217/218 on 77W (mid afternoon and midnight from MEL, mid morning and mid evening from SIN)

New regional product, angled lie flat in J, on SQ 237/8 on 773 and SQ 207/8 on A333 (morning and early evening from MEL, midnight and early morning from SIN)

What about the A330 to Tokyo?

I notice flights from SIN-NRT are generally on A380s while SIN-HND are all A330s.

Obviously I'd prefer to fly into Haneda considering it's proximity to the city, but (I think) I would much prefer the 380 J cabin – i.e. long haul. What have others experiences been like?

I've not flown the 330 to HND but the overall experience of that cabin, for me atleast, is that it is fine for daytime flights (i.e. when you don't need to sleep for a long stint). In fact, I spend most of my time on a plane working and providing that the adjacent seat is empty, I find it easier to have the laptop on my lap and my iPad for reference reading stood up on the armrest on the 330 config due to the narrower seat than on the 1-2-1 J config.

Facing the same dilemma. Would be helpful to know for sure what seats to expect.

The A330's are the worst J experience IMO

That's not good to hear…

My three other sectors are all on the 777-300s so I'll be crossing my fingers for new J fitout.

SQ are incredibly inconsistent on their offerings to Australia. I find it ridiculous that there is 4 different aircraft types with different seats operating to Melbourne!

It's really only 2 different seats though. The only real watch out is for SQ237 departing SIN at midnight, otherwise you get the inferior seat on only day flights. I'd much rather that than have consistency like BNE do on their flights - always the regional seat.
