Are Air Canada Points still useful ex Australia?

Hello Everyone/Brains Trust,
I keep reading about the option via Maurtius but the cost is 110K plus 5K for the stopover which currently is $5775 to buy the necessary aeroplane miles. I'm not sure what I am missing but this does not seem like a bargain at all ...approx $3k one way ...isn't better to find a cheap one way J back from europe or a return J from Asia?
you wait for the 100% bonus miles deal. So the cost is halved. It should work out to around $2300 one way to europe business class, with a stopover :)

I see a few posters recommending booking via MRU on Air Mauritius (which they have done) - great idea with SQ not available ex-SYD and ex-MEL (and less availability overall using AC points). But - having flown Air Mauritius last year (MRU-PER), I was not impressed - both hard and soft product - I also got food poisoning on the flight (at least that's what I think it was - could have just been another virus). Due the to small fleet - any irregular ops is likely to be quite disruptive. Of course a stopover in Mauritius could be attractive for some (we did a 2 week stopover on our way home from Africa and it was enjoyable but really a once only thing - there are better beach destinations around the world (IMO)).
We flew MK back to Perth from Mauritius last June. Less than 24 hours before our flight, they delayed it til the following morning and told us to book our own hotel and have dinner (sans alcohol) which they will cover. Tool 4 months and multiple emails to get reimbursed!

...and we had separate Per to Syd tickets in Va J which we had to cancel and ended up flying back Per to Syd in VaA Y and also had to cough up for a motel near Per airport.

So Ìm in the camp of avoiding MK, Air Mauritius, moving forwards!

Mauritius is great for one visit but that's probably enough....

Fair enough

We had. I issues with our air Mauritius flights. And including the Virigin connecting flights as part of ticket meant a smooth transfer, and will protect against any delays.
When we were at MKU airport, we met a very annoyed passenger whose family had bought Mru-Per-Syd on 1 ticket with Va on the last sector. Due to the overnight delay, they would miss the Va Per-Syd sector and MK REFUSED to rebook their Va flight. The argument got so heated that police were called...not sure of the final outcome as we scurried away...

If you read online forums, you will find this is standard practice by MK who are just about bankrupt!

I post this as "Beyer be aware!" info :)

The rebooking can occur after the departure of the MK flight, once the arrival time is confirmed. All on one ticket = protected connections. (Same thing happened to a friend of mine in paid F on EK, departing late out of Paris. The onward connection wasn’t rebooked until they were in the air.)

Looking at trustpiot I agree it looks bad! Lots of delays and cancellations. However travel insurance would cover many of the costs being complained about, like an extra night’s accommodation.

Relatives of mine had a similar issue but ended up being delayed 3 days and MK refused to reimburse (Despite verbal promises to). Thank goodness for TI.

Hmmmm I bought Aeroplan Miles with the big bonus with the intention of flying MK to Mauritius and Reunion.

May have to reconsider.. It wasn’t going to be a long trip and a delay of a day or more would really put me off.

I did exactly that ...just allow a buffer day in case of delays which unfortunately are not uncommon with MK esp for the long haul. There are a few flights per day bet RUN and MKU so less of an issue on this route.
