I did book this hotel late last year, but decided to cancel before the deadline due to the poor google ratings, instead I went to the Vibe at the airport - it was much more expensive, but the service was much better than I hoped

To be honest as a Canberra local I had to look it up online as I hadn't heard of it. Looking at the Booking.com reviews, and your experience I can see why I wouldn't stay there. I agree with the recommendations for other local hotels like the Kurrajong. In the future check out Little National, Nishi, Peppers, and The Sebel. There's also the Abode chain which is opening up around town.

Some Ibis Styles are great, I've stayed in the one in Brisbane a couple of times and it's good if nothing fancy, and the one in Hobart is very decent relative to the price.

Agreed with the above, Little National Hotel is lovely if you're working in the Parliament and Barton areas. Abode aren't amazing but perfectly serviceable, the one in Belconnen is in good shape.

We stay in Canberra a lot and think that the best Accor is the Mercure at Belconnen. We recently stayed at the Sebel at Campbell and were disappointed with it. There are some excellent hotels if you are happy to not stay at an Accor..

What's the consensus of the Mercure Braddon?
I’m not a fan of it. Had 2 stays there and although it does have heritage the rooms are showing their age and breakfast offerings quite poor. Location is good but just not a fan of it. Felt treatment of elite members was pretty average both times.
Compare that to the Mercure Belconnen which is our go to and looks after us superbly. Upgrades to best rooms and staff always great. Had quite a few stays there and modern hotel with nice rooms and breakfast at the Labour club is pretty decent spread. Also if I’m staying there for work in my own I often go into the Club for excellently priced and good quality meals and drinks.

Belconnen is just too far out of the way for me unfortunately.

Is the Mercure in Braddon any better than the Novotel?
