AotD -Business Class- ETIHAD Kuala Lumpur to London from US$2,541

I was gonna post that too! Just shy of AUD4000… but cancellations are allowed for like $300. Not bad.

But how to get to KL? (none of the connections are ones I would recommend on safety grounds :()

Presumably VFF‘s might be able to swing by SIN on SQ? (or Scoot), with o/n stays along the way.

As you would expect, slightly cheaper as an open jaw and returning from somewhere outside the the UK. Skyscanner was giving me A$3,800 back from CDG for next month.

CGK-FRA for under $3500 on EY for plenty of dates in the coming months

Although a slight step down in product IMO, GF have some pretty decent prices from various Asian ports to various European ports too. A touch under $3k and I don’t mind their 787

Not sure if still available but we were looking at MNL-GVA rerun on EY in business for around $2100 SGD or about $2400 AUD. Timing didn’t quite work out and it also involved $360 return on SQ from SIN plus 2 nights accommodation in MNL.

Are AFF'ers saying they wont fly MH on safety grounds???? WTF?
Discuss.....
Unfortunately yes.

Airlineratings gives it one of the lowest scores at 3 out of 7. Malaysia Airlines - Airline Ratings

I believe this rating has dropped lower than it was in the years after MH17 and 370.

AIrlineratings aside… the airline appears to accept very high risk when it comes to route planning (MH17), and the disappearance of MH370 with the airline and government abandoning efforts to find the missing aircraft is concerning.

Even if MH says they were following what everyone else was doing in regards to flight paths, given the loss of MH370 only a couple of months before you might have hoped they would be more risk averse going forward… and take a safer flight paths and increasing safety measures across all aspects of their operations.

Well, you'd better add SQ and EK to your list, as they were the aircraft on either side of MH17, and it was pure luck that they weren't the targeted ones.

Having shared the airspace with many airlines over the years, I find it interesting that one of the ones that I consider most dangerous, is one that most of you happily fly.

I’m not sure my post recommended any carrier to fly, just the reasons why I avoid MH.

SQ and EK didn’t suffer hull losses in close proximity. Having lost one, I’d want there to be heightened awareness of risk, and perhaps risk avoidance. The attitude of the airline and government was dismissive. The outcome of MH370 on its own is enough for me to avoid Malaysian carriers. If I lost friends or family on a flight I’d want every avenue exhausted, and no expense spared to find out what happened.

Airline-ratings are horsesh!t, IMHO
It takes off 3 stars for MH fatal crashes yet in the explanation says "terrorism and pilot suicide don't count". So which is it??
MH gets full marks for audit compliance and being incident free.

I agree with jb747
One flight was lost to a sick, vengeful pilot and the other caused by a war criminal.
Pilot suicides - two that I can think of in past 10 years - with 300 million flights in that time. Those are pretty good odds of not dying because the pilot is deranged. (I say deranged because most of the depressed people whom I know, need our compassion and are not homicidal in any way!)

Oh, and Air Asia gets a 7* safety rating on the same website. Go figure....

I’m a MH fain and have no issue flying with them but I will admit their quality of product and service seems to have slipped substantially since Covid.
If flying back to ADL I still think the MH J seats are superior to SQ’s poor offerings but as others have mentioned the service on MH has been pretty ordinary and at the price they are asking there are far better alternatives but it unfortunately means coming home via the Eastern states

There is a minority of Australians (not just on this forum) that won't. Personally I'm happy to fly MH.
Me too.
Four round trips to KUL in the past year.
No problems with except for the lack of bourbon on board.
First world problem.

I just recently finished my very own personal searches and found that VIETNAM AIRLINES is offering Business Class from Singapore to Paris from $2,010 USD. I could only find availability in January 2024 though.

Yep, the article suggests Jan 2024 - so I didn’t bother reposting.

the MH challenge was only accentuated by yesterday's diversion

i'd hate to have booked a separate tic to fly to :London that evening

seems like a 3 day stopover in KL would be useful (Batu Caves being one tourist option or scoot upto Penang / Ipoh)
