AO Tennis 2014

I was pretty uncomfortable last night until the breeze started making a difference to the temps in the arena. I really hope they close the roof for tomorrow. With thunderstorms and more heat expected, I guess it's likely. Though I imagine if they do it in the afternoon rather than in the morning, it will be awful in RLA when it's cool outside as the a/c struggles to cool a huge 44C space.

Where you there working or a spectator?

I was a spectator. Enjoyed my evening other than that. :)

I'll Hi5 you as we pass Anna - will be there for night session - after dinner at Southbank and then water taxi up to tennis centre - gotta love the proximity of the worlds best sporting precinct to Melb city centre hey?

Off tonight to see Rafa V Monfils - won't be too fussed about watching the women's 1st up at 7pm although I do much prefer Victoria's shrieks to Maria's shrieks!

The men's should be a fabulous match if Gael can bring the game he had on display 2 nts ago against the Sockman.

Dinner at Southbank + water taxi to Tennis Centre + watching world's No 1 player Rafa in action = most civilised night of sporting entertainment one can imagine.

Had a great night at tennis last night - dinner at Left Bank at Southbank then water taxi up Yarra as usual to experience a fabulous 4hr 5 set showdown - seats in lower level Seat N76 - fabulous viewing.

What I could not get over was the number of spare seats deep into 1st set - here is one end of court:

Bear in mind these are the prime seats right behind the players – this is the other end which indeed houses the 'corporates' who were still clearly congregated around the trough.

I noticed these Chinese characters nestled amongst the corporate signage on courtside hoardings:

I don't read Chinese so I snapped a pic and sent it off to my Chinese mate in Nanjing to translate - he quickly replied - Cruiser this means 'don't bother taking hvr to the tennis with you because he will never buy you a beer!'

And then there this was at other end of court:

Same deal - I sent off the image to China - apparently this reads 'And be careful of serfty at tomorrow night's MEL gathering - he will dodge his shout too if he can' - lucky I verified these huh?

So who is off to see Roger V Andy tonight?

seats in lower level Seat N76 - fabulous viewing.

So who did you have to kill to get those seats?

My business partner is in charge of AO Tennis tix procurement - he has been at it about 10yrs now so has a pretty good handle on it - Row C for Sunday's Men's Final.

I was there for the first five days. It was bloody hot but I always enjoy it.

I am am hoping this will be the first of three grand slams for me this year as we are planning on going to the French Open and Wimbledon this year as we travel around Europe.

Fantastic fersea - I envy you - I went to Wimbledon last year - was a fabulous experience. Pommie crowds oh so conservative but just to experience the Wimbledon atmosphere was amazing.

This weekend we will be formulating a policy to get to the US and French opens - bucket list kinda thing.

And what a gem we have in store tomorrow night - Rafa V Roger - this is the final we wanted not the semi but what will be will be.

I hope the winner of Berdych and Wawrinka wins the tournament. Time for someone else to break the "big four".

I went to Wimbledon in 1997 but we just got a late afternoon ground pass. Hoping to get to Centre Court this year. We have already gone in the first ballot for overseas residents then Tennis Australia have a ballot which I think I can enter as both an Australian Open member and as Tennis ACT registered player.

Failing that we will do the camp out. French Open we will be trying to get tickets as soon as they go on sale on March 13.

Yes I got 2 x centre court seats last year for Wimbledon through the AO Membership - way different experience sitting in centre court Wimbledon to Melbourne - way different.

One of the players on the practice schedule is called Sithole

I planed to return early from BNE yesterday to catch some of Federer - Murray match but off course the flight had to be delayed almost 90 minutes... Arrived home just when the game finished :(
