Just called to cancel this card (annual fee charged 27/02) and asked to have annual fee refunded (I haven't used the flight or requested the lounge passes since the annual fee was charged). Initially the guy said no and then when I pushed he put me on hold and came back & offered to waive the $225 annual fee if I keep the card open for another year. I asked if I could still change my mind and close the account whenever I wanted (say in a few weeks after I book my flight and receive my lounge passes) and he said not a problem. Means I've paid absolutely nothing for this card and will receive 2 x return flights, 4 x lounge passes and 60k velocity points. Winning!

Curious to know also if this card can still be applied via Pointshack and be credited bonus points as well.[/QUOTE

Pointshack offer is still valid, applied approx three weeks ago and 40k points have credited to velocity.

Applied via Pointshack link 21 Feb.
Met min spend.
Received email 9 Mar which included a code.
Email advised I was to go to specific site or call 1800 number, enter my details and the code.
i believe the points will take up to 2 months.

Anyone know if the link in Pointshack is still active? Would really like this card now that Anz have started charging a fee for their credit card.

I applied and was approved last week. Received the card 2 days later. Still yet to use it, but previous threads (& T&C) will indicate ANZ will contact you to provide Velocity number for the bonus points. Alternatively you can set up auto-transfer points on ANZ Rewards (for a date way in the future) and for most they seemed to transfer the 40k automatically (after a wait)

I reached the $500 cap and about one week later (Wednesday just gone) I received an e-mail from ANZ with a link and unique code to register for my 40,000 bonus points to be awarded.

Promptly submitted and the bonus points turned up on Friday. Very quick turnaround and happy, I think this card might be a long term keeper though. Good benefits for me (as long as the lounge passes remain paper, as I'm likely to be WP or at worst SG anyway)

I want to apply for this card. But I had a CC (I forgot the name) from ANZ last year and received 50K Qantas points. I cancelled the card on Feb this year. Am I still eligible for the bonus point? I think the criteria specifically says only excluding customers that currently hold an adventure card or held one in the past 12 month. I believe this is the only card belongs to adventure card.

Can I get SCs from Virgin when I taking the return flight?

You will be eligible for points as it's a different card type.

And yes you get points and SCs for the flight, it ends up being a standard travel agent booking.

There are some mixed reports on the latter, so I would probably treat it as lucky if you get them, but wouldn't necessarily budget on them as a last minute bump over to a higher status/retention

Sure - my data point is that both my wife and I did this two years running for Syd-Per return and received 15 SC for each flight, equivalent to restricted economy earn (T class), and the associated points. YMMV. For the second year people have been able to book the flight before you get charged the annual fee and then cancel the card. Again YMMV.
