Personally I think this is a correct interpretation by the bank. The T&C's of the card remain that it has an annual fee, you just have a waiver for year 1.

I never argue with someone on the phone, they generallyhave no power to make a decision. Far better to email their Internal Dispute Resolution team with your evidence and tell them that if you don't get what you were promised FOS is the next step, I've alswys found them very helpful in these circumstances.

No, you are absolutely right - I was speaking generally, that stuff like: "bonus Xk QFF points" and stuff like "annual fee free for X years" are rarely stated in writing in T&Cs or PDS-es because the T&Cs and PDS-es exist irrespective of promotions being run at the time.

I am with burmans on this - operators on the phone, particularly those working out of call centres abroad have very little power. I try to document everything in writing before pursuing it through other avenues.

For example, I'm in the process of winding down all of my financial "business" (such as it is) with ANZ. I'm a student, so, I'm not really a high valued customer by any stretch of the imagination, just had super, a bank account and a CC with ANZ. Had a dispute with my credit card - called up the "termination team" (with CBA, the closures team had the most power for a favourable outcome, but at ANZ, it seems the closures team still has really limited powers). Encountered a rude operator - escalated it as far as I could within that team, got a complaint number, then went straight to FOS. Someone from the Complaints Resolution Centre at ANZ called me the next business day, gave me everything I wanted (plus more), and handled things extremely well.

So yeah, I guess my experience, particularly with ANZ, is to just escalate it as much as you can on the phone, get a complaint number, then go through FOS etc.

I sent an actual snail mail letter of complaint and they never received it or so they say. A follow up call had my problem resolved.
 
Just to clarify, has anyone applied for multiple cards and received more than 1 x 50k bonus points (I've looked thru the forum with no success)?
 
My argument would be the "new accounts only" rule.

1) We opened a new account (s) (ie: basic and or black)
2) Did we close another, to either then open another account and/or transfer outstanding balance(s) over to the new account? (NO).
 
I guess my question would be
how long after cancelling a previous ANZ credit card would constitute me being a new customer ?
eg one month , one year - there must be a time ?

The 4 months referred to in the T&C is not up yet.

While some have received 50K for 1 card. Many have not received any points yet.
 
I received my black cards yesterday and cancelled them today. I missed the free year of fees for the QFF card by a couple of days. There was zero leeway when I rang to discuss, and they were going to charge me the full fee, so I immediately cancelled both black cards.

Did they even try to keep you when you tried to cancel?

I guess their rationale is that they have enough customers already signing up for the promotion. Little do they know that half of their new customers will cancel credit cards after they get their 50k points.

Nope, "you missed the close date for year fee free, nothing we can do, fee will apply" me "ok please continue with the closure request".

Interestingly they asked if I had activated, which I hadn't.
 
Further data point, SWMBO rang to cancel hers this morning (she had activated) and no offer to keep her on the Black QFF. They did try to sell her on other cards but would not match the online offer of fee free for a year.
