ANZ Platinum, 50k bonus QFF points after $1500 spend, no annual fee first year

On OzBargain there's a post from a user saying they have cleared 100,000 points from the Basic + Platinum cards.

Sadly, while I've applied twice I cannot confirm because I haven't yet activated the ANZ Black or met the minimum spend.

When I called up to upgrade the ANZ Basic to ANZ Black the girl on the phone suggested lodging a new application as if she upgraded the card it would not be eligible for the first year free. She also seemed to think that the second application would get the second set of bonus points as well.

There is hope .
Thank you.

My 50,000 points have shown up in my QFF account along with my second month's points.

Basic card only, and hit the threshold during the past month.

Woohoo 50K points have just shown up in my QFF.
I have the Platinum card.

No points still on checking tonight.... What is the point of black if basic classic gets points first.... Poor form ANZ

Same situation here. At what point is it safe to cancel the card? :p

So presume you already have an Amex that gives you 1.5 QFF pts per $ spend (assuming you have black/plat), otherwise why cancel, wait 11 mths and then do it.

Well I have no idea whether my wife will get a second 50K or not, but have had her apply for the Plat this weekend, as we will activate it at -360 days to the date we return from out overseas trip next year as we will use it for the Travel Insurance for that trip. Paying QF taxes and charges will activate while earning 2.5 QFF points per $.

Applied for the Basic then asked them to upgrade it to the Black when I realised the point earn was so different. Was told by the lady on the phone to re-apply for the card or I'd be charged the annual fee if she upgraded me. She also said the second application should get the 50,000 pts.

So I'm just wondering whether it's safe to cancel the basic card :p

Also, for most of my stuff I'll be using my Citibusiness Gold because it's 1.25 pts per dollar plus the additional 15% that QF seems to love throwing around. It becomes 1.43 / $1 on a Visa that also hits BPay if it accepts credit cards.

ANZ BPay is done at the Visa rate - not AMEX!

I don't get your complaint. They gave themselves 4 months to get you the points, as long as ANZ do that, they have delivered.

He obviously believes he is more important than others and cant get past the fact that ANZ disagrees. To answer his question though, the point of black is the better earn rate, the increased benefits.

Agreed. If your only concern was churning points, the point of the black is the two lounge passes as it earns the same rate as the platinum.

Applied last Friday and spoke to call centre Card Asessments/Approvals team today worried about missing 26/8/14 cut off.

I was advised as long as application is in by 26/8/14 then i am protected in getting the bonus features!

Hit the $1500 middle of last week. I'm in my second statement period, fingers crossed for points at the end of the month.

Don't worry. As with all credit card offers, the key words are "Apply by"

My 50k posted today. Happy Days. And the wife will be applying tomorrow just in time :)

My basic card (only cancelled 3 months ago!) has been approved. Thats 2 cards between us :)

I called up today enquiring about my second card application (Platinum, first one was Basic that got approved overnight).
The guy said one of the risks of applying too late are that it may not get approved in time... but then was a bit vague/flaky when I asked about what happens if I am approved after the cutoff but apply before. He said I *may* be eligible for the offer but didn't confirm nor deny anything.

When you look at the T&Cs:
1. Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account by 26 August 2014.

It says you need to apply by 26/8. One reasonable interpretation is that the "new and approved applicants" part is separate to being "approved by 26/8".. in that in order to be eligible, you need to satisfy the minimum spend.. and that to be able to spend anything at all, you need to be approved.

But then, the main part says this (portion underlined):
$0 Total Annual Fee for the first year, plus get 50,000 Bonus Qantas Points when you spend $1,500 on eligible purchases within 3 months when you apply and are approved before 26 August 2014[SUP]1[/SUP]
