ANZ card bonus points vs annual fee wavied under home loan package

I did some research and find ANZ is offering either annual fee waived or bonus points

Some suggests we can: pay for anuual fee first, get points then attach the card with home loan package to get annual fee refund.

Has anyone done this recently?
 
Not recently but I have done it and was successful
