Have a J flight out of Singapore on the 20th Aug to Rome and back on the 22 Sep (if that final waitlist comes thru) I know the 777-200's are gradually being refitted from the old purple seats to the new ones, anyone know if we have a chance of being on a refitted bird at that time?

I was reading on SQtalk that you might get an insight by looking at the J seating config. Refurb aircraft have 1-2-1 seating. Cjeck the seat map for your travel day.
