Anyone have experience with power supply calculations (watts/amps etc) for LED strips?

Just wondering if anyone is good with power supply calculations and can verify my calculations are correct.

I have an LED strip for a project and I'm trying to work out the required battery power supply. I know the voltage required is 12V.

What I've got:
  • 0.5m of 3528 LED strip (60 LED/m)
  • 3528 draws 0.08A per LED (apparently)
30 x 0.08 / 12 = 0.2 Amps (adding on 20% for safety) = 0.24 Amps

0.24 x 12 = 2.88 Watts

I want it to run for 2 hours.

2.88 x 2 = 5.76 watt-hours

5.76 / 12 = 0.48 amp-hours

These strips pull ~ 5W per meter so it looks about right.

2.5W/12v * 2 hours = 0.417 Ah
