I did a rush job - a couple of weeks ago I couldn't get a SYD-LAX flight in November for anything but October was okay. However last night there seemed to be plenty of flights. A late release?

LAX will now be 96000 pts rather than 80000. Was surprised to see that Honolulu was also 80 000 - now 96000 I suppose.

Thought about doing a late booking however decided that paying a higher price later for something I wanted, was better than paying less now for something I didn't really want/need. :D

Well it WAS very possible to simply get a flight to a country you wanted to go to and at a later time change it to a better date once availability opens up.

You would be able to change THAT flight for a date up to 355 days after the initial departure date.

Theoretically I could have gotten a ticket to the US for May 20 2006 and then be able to change that for any date up until about May 15 2007.

As a Silver or higher you would not be hit with the 2,500 points penalty if you only change dates.

It's all over now anyway but I decided that the measly 60,000 points I've got now needed to be a bit bigger to get those MLB-LON flights. :)

Daniel

I booked two return business class trips BNE to MEL last night - 30,000 points each instead of 48,000 today.

I hate it when you are so right :!:

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Stupid me saved on the swings but lost on the roundabouts. Mistakenly thought that all domestic sectors were going down in points. Had to book some last minute flights for parents going to a funeral in the West and it went up from 60 000 to 72 000 (2 tickets!) Idiot! Still the cheapest tickets they could buy at such short notice were just under $1000 so it still looks cheap with points ($160 in taxes though  ).

Now I've got to build my points back up again...

Actually you could have got the 2 syd-per return tickets for 31k points each by using the discount code in the Jun newsletter..

Now 'e tells me! Write out 100 times: I must read newsletters more closely. With all the rush I would not have remembered it anyway. I wonder if I can appeal to the Privy Council retrospecitvely to get the points back. Buckley's I'd say but no harm in asking.

I had a bit of a win - had previously tried MEL-LAX for January without luck. Suddenly seats were available at the last minute. Also managed some internal US flights and saved many 1000s of points over booking after midnight. Finally got off the phone at 11.45pm feeling pretty good about myself.

Did you get a good date for a return?

Also, what sort of flights did you manage to get internally inside the US?

I had a check and could not find any LAX-NY flights for Jan.

Regards
Daniel

Organised 2 SYD-DARWIN-SYD tickets for a 4 day break in November. We saved 12,000 points.

Booked 4 tickets from adelaide to new zealand in april 2006 for 30K points, going up to 36K.

Direct flight back from auckland to adelaide, but have to go via sydney on the way over.
