I've had very mixed experiences using the Virgin IFE on my computer. The first time I tried it all I got for the whole flight was the "We're sorry..." screen which kept refreshing and failing. I alerted the FAs but I didn't think they'd be able to help and I was right. The next time I used it there seemed to be no problem and I watched a few programs.
On my flights last week I couldn't get it to work properly again. I used Google Chrome and couldn't even get the start screen. However I found I still had Internet Explorer so I used that and I got the home screen okay. However when I started a program the ad at the start would come on and freeze after about five seconds. I would have to completely restart IE to get it back. I would then move to another episode of a TV show and it worked.
On the way home I managed to get the home screen with Google Chrome but had the same freezing problem with everything I tried. Used IE again and got the same result so I couldn't watch anything. So I had nothing to watch but the back of the seat for the next two hours (forgot my book). The woman next to me had an iPhone and watched a movie on it on the way home. On the way up a kid next to me watched shows on an iPod.
What's the problem? Is there a setting I can change? Does it only work properly with Apple products? It's pretty disappointing and I don't blame the FAs for not understanding it.
