Hope someone has a solution to this one...

I want to book a one way JASA from SCL to SYD next year - preferably on QF28. I can't do this online because SCL is not one of the cities you can select as a departure point when booking classic or ASA's. I can see that the seat is there because if I plug in SYD-SCL return, I can see the availability on the return leg.

I rang Qantas and they tell me that you cannot book ASA's over the phone - they can only be booked online. I told her it was impossible to book it online and she had no solution.

Does anybody else?

Thanks.

I believe you can indeed book any seat awards over the 'phone - at the cost of the assisted award booking fee.

The T&C's imply this and someone posted a while back they have done so.

FWIW, no awards departing [-]Chilli[/-] Chile appear to be bookable online.

I thought it was also possible to book any seat awards over the phone. Just keep calling back until you get a consultant that will do it for you without reading you your rights.

Just as well! Is this a feature of a new spell checker you have?

.

Usually it's the other way, limited online capabilities mean some fares can only be booked via staff, so QF gets a chance to slug you a assisted booking fee.

If it can be booked online then surely a competent QF agent can book it through their internal system. The problem is you lucked out with an incompetent agent (I'm guessing)

Thanks guys. I will try again tomorrow.

While I'm on the subject, I note that when Qantas release award seats a year out, they release J award seats on QF27 from SYD-SCL but no J seats on QF28 SCL-SYD.

Has anyone noticed whether J award seats get released closer to departure date on QF28?

And it does seem kinda unfair to charge the assisted booking fee when it's impossible to book online...

Thanks again.

Ive noticed the same problem when booking an award flight...
Ive rung them and they say i have to pay the fee for their assistance.
Ive decided to probably purchase the tickets though so no too worried, however when i get a quote on the "how many points do you need" it quotes me 10,000 points for my particular trip, so if i did decide to go with it, I would just tell them thats the price quoted...why should i have to pay the extra fee.

Even cities that are listed can be problemmatic.
Impossible to book a JASA BKK-PER, while YASAs and classics are OK.

Yeah, that's weird. That seems to be a bug in the site though cos it won't even find the flights, let alone the seats!

When I suggested to the Qantas lady that the assistance fee was unfair in the circumstances, she said the system does not let them remove it.... But I'm not sure that's true because I booked a domestic JASA a couple of months ago and had to change the date - online, it would let me pick another flight but then would revert to a paid ticket instead of ASA and would ask me to pay. I rang them, explained, the guy checked it and said "yeah you're right" and changed it and waived the fee.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

They can definitely remove the fee but are unwilling unless their is a blatant issue with their system, I booked a JASA through the WP line when the website was malfunctioning, the agent mentioned the booking fee then said as the website is down I'm going to wave it etc can also depend who u get on the call
