Any reason to renew Qantas Club membership?

I can't remember the last time I paid for a Qantas Club membership, but since switching to VA/EK/SQ I've dropped back to QF Silver and I just received an email from QF that I need to renew my Qantas Club membership (obviously because it's no longer bundled with my status level).

My first thought is that I won't bother renewing because when I fly QF again one day I will just fly in J or F anyway. However before letting it lapse, I just thought I should check with the gurus on AFF - is there another consequence of failing to renew that I am unaware of? Will, for example, my "member since" record be nuked (does QF even have/use that anyway?) causing me to receive less-than-awesome treatment when, say, I eventually reach LTG?
 
No reason if you are not going to pay for it again. If you were then there is a joining fee generally.

After many loyal years with QC my situation changed and I was asked to renew - I chose to let it lapse.
6+ months later my situation changed again and I looked at renewing and was told I'd have to pay the full fee again (joining fee + membership). It was like I had never been a member.
I think you get 3 or 6 months grace after the lapse where you would only pay the renewal to rejoin.
This happened a few years ago so it may have changed, but I doubt it.
