Any reason to jump ship to QFF?

... So are 150K QFF points better than 60K AA points?
One way or return? :p

Lets look at minumum levels to incorporate the 5K bonus (SPG to AA).

$40,500 spend on Amex => 25K AAdvantage
$40,000 spend on Diners => 25K AAdvantage

$40,500 spend on Amex => 60,750 QFF
$40,000 spend on Diners => 40,000 QFF

One way or return? :p

And in what class?

e.g. SYD-LHR in F one way is 192k QF.
SYD-LHR in F return is 160k AA.

Assuming that you earnt the miles just from flying (at the roughly same rate), then AA is the better bet, even if you throw away the return. This is before you take into account the better RDM earn rate on AA for D fares, especially for OWS.

If you earnt the miles from Australian Credit Cards, and want a one way, then QF is better.

Only one catch-I get 1.5 points per $A spend on diners so-
$40000 spend on Diners= 37.5K Aadvantage miles.

I think if it was just a question of earn/burn it would be easier but the complication is status - however I slice and dice this I get a different answer each time - tricky tricky...

True. If someone had lifetime OWS on both AAdvantage (2MM) and QFF (14000 SCs), which program would they credit their flights to?

AAdvantage for the better earn/burn?
Or QFF for the easier OWE status and oneway redemptions?

Depends on what gives more "value" to the beholder.

My story for the past couple of years. :p

But i think I've now firmly decided that status is the way to go due to anticipated decreased need for awards.

I guess they're sometimes called 'loyalty programs' rather than 'rewards programs' for a reason.

Is that because it is some association card?
It was initially an AMA card.Some years ago the AMA switched to Amex-as i had already cut up 3 Amex cards in the past i didnt want to switch.DC kept the 1.5 points per $1 so I stayed.They did try and reduce it 18 months ago but I said i would switch to Amex as they had 1.5 points per $1 so they have left things unchanged so I have stayed.
Older and wiser now so i will go with whatever is best for me in the long run.

I was aware of this and somon mentioned it:
This is where you have the advantage using teh Diners card and your special bonus earning ...
I was more posting in relation to the masses ...

It's better than that for you, for that 25K AAdvantage, the spend is only $26.7K.

Unfortunately for someone like me QFF is the only option. As I am not prepared to pay for anything other than E, O and N class for domestic travel and E, O, N, Q, S and V class for international travel it would be hard to get any sort of status on Aadvantage.

But I am not complaining as QF Platinum status comes in very handy and I have been able to accumulate close to 380,000 QFF points in less than 2 years mainly from flights, hotel stays, car hire, bonus points from Qantas Amex Premium card purchasing QF flights and bonus promotions from QF Holidays. I have just redeemed 280,000 QFF points for 2 WHY Oneworld awards....
