Hi,
I've been a member of Club Carlson for several years, and can't honestly say I've found great deals on their Advanced Purchase Rate (APR) when looking at stays in Fiji and Sweden, relative to what I could find on Booking.com as a Genius member. Sometimes the deal was better at Booking.com, and once there was a great deal at Club Carlson for Fiji, but it disappeared when I went back again. I joined the Marriot scheme the other day, looked at Fiji and there was a significant 20% discount at their place relative to Booking.com, but hardly any saving at their Swedish place.

I have no interest in joining any loyalty scheme for reward points.

In your experience, is there any hotel loyalty scheme which consistently gives good to great deals on Advanced Puchase Rate (or any rate for that matter) relative to what one can typically find on Booking.com?

Your answers would be much appreciated, as it would save me from joining numerous schemes and trying to figure it out.
Regards,
Renato

Why would you just not use a Best Rate Guarantee and book direct with the chain, earn points and stay credits towards status.

I have had a lot of success with SPG BRG, less so with Hyatt and Hilton but still enough for that to be my preference.

I only use Booking.com or equivalents when the hotel is not part of a chain.

Thanks for your thoughts, but the Best Rate Guarantee at Club Carlson says,
" The Comparison Rate must be for the same hotel, same reservation date(s), same room type (i.e., room size and amenities), same number of guests, same currency as the Brand Website confirmation email, and the same advance payment and refund policies and restrictions must apply.
..............................................
Once confirmed, we will match the lower rate and discount that rate by an additional 25%. For prepaid bookings, the difference will be refunded on the applicable credit card by the hotel. You may only submit one claim for each stay
."

Which all looks quite impressive - except that the refund policies at the Club Carlson site are rarely the same as on the Booking.com site.

If Booking.com has a room 20% cheaper than at the Club Carlson site, am I really going to book the room at the Club Carlson site in the hope that I'll get 25% off the Booking.com price, when they may knock the claim back saying that the Booking.com has free cancellation, whereas the Club Carlson site charges a one or two night cancellation fee?

Renato

.
Thanks again - I joined SPG and tested out their rates at Fiji. Result was $99 less than the discounted Genius rate at Booking.com.

And I just remembered that I can switch Amex Reward points to SPG points.
