As above, heading there later in the year and no idea where to stay. Looks like I might actually have to stay in a hotel where I have no status
From a quick scan of Trip Advisor I'm loathe to take any of their recommendations considering 3rd and 4th spot are Premiere Inns  :!:
It will need to be fairly central, I thought The Magdalen Chapter looked pretty nice.
Would love to know if anyone's been there or has any other recommendations for the area?

Apologies I cannot help but I am sure you will be fine staying in a hotel without status. ;)

Guess you don,t mean Exeter Tasmania. ? I have a empty 4 bedroom house 6K away at Rosevears..

I stayed for 4 nights in the Mercure Exeter Southgate a month ago. I'd recommend it. It is very centrally located near the Cathedral and "downtown" (they do charge for parking). We took a privilege room which was spacious, very comfortable with a great bathroom, included mini bar soft drinks and WiFi. Breakfast was also good for an English hotel. We didn't pre-book breakfast which was offered on line but were offered on arrival two for the price of one for a full breakfast (2 for 15 pounds if I recall), a much better deal. I'd put the hotel at the standard of a good Doubletree and would stay there again. If you need any eating recommendations I'd suggest you have a look at Harry's Grill Bar.

Just bumping my own thread here :)
I will be staying at The Magdalen Chapter next month and will update with a little review

I'm here and I have to say I'm very impressed so far. Check-in was super quick, advised that I had been upgraded to a Feature room. At check-in you are given an iPad which acts as your hotel directory and also comes loaded with music (great selection)

The library is fantastic, eclectic selection of books for guests to borrow and take back to the room
