Has anyone managed to get a discount on the annual fee for the Amex Platinum credit card?
I can get a card through my professional association, but I'd rather not have to go through a new application.

Not sure which professional organisation you are with, but both CPA Australia and APESMA offer $295 for annual membership for Amex Platinum (savings of $100 off standard fee of $395). I have an Amex Gold (no fee) and am reluctant to pay $295 for Amex Platinum - but maybe it is worth it, still considering.

Hubby has got Mastercard Platinum with CBA and cost $495 a year (as part of the Wealth Plus Package for home loans).

Make sure you weigh up the advantages for both cards before deciding because apart from the free QF flight per year I can't see the benefit of getting the Plat card over the rewards maximiser, especially now that they have taken Perth out of the routing for east coast residents. Perth residents can still travel to SYD so might be a benefit there for the $200 extra.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yeah, flying to PER-SYD costs $270 each way on a Red e-Deal, so a return flight for the $395 annual fee is actually a bit of a bargain. Even when there's a sale for DJ it's usually about $350 return.
Still, there's no doubting that it's an expensive card with high requirement, although I'm not sure if the requirements are slacker if you're a member of one of the professional organisations that offer it.

Westpac offer Plat Master Card with Plat Amex attached for $295. Just received my invitation for the card/s

Hi everyone
First post here, as I have just discovered you:D
Here is a link, to a Qantas Amex card with no fee for the first year (saving $195). I got it last year & because I pay it off each month, it hasn't cost me anything. Also other benefits like 2 QP invitations after your first spend with Qantas & 5000 points on sign up.
