A man was escorted off a Qantas plane in Sydney this morning by two officers who told him they were from the "anti-terrorism taskforce".

A Qantas spokesman confirmed a passenger was taken into police custody after he "failed to comply with a captain's directive".

A witness who was on the same 9am Melbourne to Sydney flight, said two Australian Federal Police officers boarded the plane about 15 minutes after it landed and asked the "well-dressed businessman" to go with them.

They just can't help themselves can they:rolleyes:

Meanwhile, Qantas was forced to cancel its first morning flight from Sydney to Los Angeles today because of maintenance delays.

An airline spokesman said 154 passengers due to leave Sydney at 9.45am were pushed onto the next two Los Angeles-bound flights at 10.20am and 1.20pm today.

This would seem to be a very light load for a flight to LA.

I wonder whether QF cancelled the flight to save expenses?

It's just been reported on the 3:00pm news here in Adelaide that he refused to turn his laptop off before landing!

Clearly a legend in his own lunch-time!

I wonder if he thought he was better than everyone when he continued to use his laptop??? I hope he cops a fine for it.

There's one or more muppet on every flight. If it's not a laptop, it's a an idiot talking on his mobile still. If not a phone an iPod being used by the 16 year old.

Some people simply think they are above the requirements.

A MELBOURNE man who allegedly refused to switch off his laptop during a Qantas flight could face a fine of up to $2750.
He was escorted from the jet by counter-terrorism police yesterday.
As the Melbourne-to-Sydney flight approached for landing, cabin crew asked the man to turn off his computer for safety reasons.

He refused repeated requests, including an order from the captain, and was arrested and taken off the plane in Sydney, an Australian Federal Police spokeswoman said.

The incident, which was not treated as a terrorism threat, delayed passengers for at least 15 minutes.

The man may be charged for failing to follow directions of the captain and can be fined up to $2750 if found guilty.

Well I hope after he coughs up some $$$ he complies next time.

There are simple instructions pax need to follow. And it ****s me when people don't. Like don't put their seatbelt on, don't bring their seat up. I had someone in front of me had there seat back and i asked him a few times to bring it up (so did the FA's, but he kept reclining it. A few knees and hits to the seat back and he finally got the idea.

Why do people think they are exempt from the rules???

Do note regarding the seat issue though, quite often I've had the experience where my seat is "broken" per-say (which in one case resulted in an upgrade to J ) and it reclines by itself, and when I explained that to the person behind me he still didn't get the idea ...... FYI, I normally don't recline, even on longhaul overnights.

I know that happens too, except if that was the case it broke everytime the FA walked away. ;) And funnily enough once i asked him again and kneed the seat it must have fixed itself!!

I'd love to see you use that technique on the couple in fornt of my wife from FRA to ADLvia SIN last year. Must ahve been on their honeymoon, she climbed on top of him as soon as the seat belt light went off, recline, blanket over the top hump, hump, hump all night. A few knees might have added to the experience! ;) :)

I have had a sufficiently large numer of seats do this, that I actually wonder if there is some design problem with the recline mechanism.
