I am one of thousands of ex ANSETT Golden Wing members who lost thousands of points when ANSETT went down. Has anyone in the same boat ever tried to obtain a settlement on those lost points from the company's administrators.

Thanks :(

Tom

Me too! I lost heaps of points. I think I read somewhere that some former Global Rewards members tried for compensation and a snowball would have a better chance in hell. That was 8 years and 2 months ago. It's time to move on. BTW welcome to AFF

"Are you with Ansett?"
"Absolutely!"

As Bob Dyer used to say on Pick-a-box - "Fly TAA the friendly way, don't chance it with Ansett".

I only lost ~21K points.

... obtain a settlement on those lost points from the company's administrators.
Company administrators can only pay out what funds are left or what they recover from others.

As Ansett was 100% owned by Air NZ you could try the flying kiwi

I did register as a creditor.Got occasional notifications of meetings but absolutely zilch in any compensation.

I know some people who have avowed never to have anything to do with AirNZ due to this issue.

I vowed to never have any dealings with New Zealand itself apart from products from Marlborough;)

I have no intention of flying NZ. I still think that we should have severed diplomatic relations with them.

I thought they already had over the underarm incident ... :p

Seriously, If I can get 2 LAX-MEL-LAX fares for AUD1950 and then upgrade them to Business premier class for 59000 Amex MR points per pax each way who am I to hold a grudge.

Certainly far better than what Qantas provide on the same route.

That was the worst piece of sportsmanship that I have ever seen. The way that that Brian McKechnie threw his bat after Trevor Chappell bowled the ball was shocking. He should have been banned from the game for life! Or are you referring to an unsavoury incident involving bad BO in an All Blacks scrum?

:D I didn't see that one coming!

Wow, such short and rose tinted memories we have..... Ansett would not have survived with or without Air NZ's involvement and that of the NZ taxpayer.

And yes, I also lost a substantial number of FF points - never to be seen again, and I am just as unhappy as the rest of you over the loss.

Get over it people (and the underarm incident - the Kiwi's have, many years ago).

NZAC's? Oh, that's right it ANZAC's - so easy to forget the A!:)

I always think what if SG was given the OK from the Govt to take over Ansett before Air NZ did....I'm sure Ansett would still be around today.

I can just imagine Richard Branson's face when the news broke Ansett was going under and there are now several free terminals in need of a new tenant.

Well, it's had to believe that 8 years on this is still a topic! Maybe Air NZ did (most of us) a favour, airfares have been fairly competitive (even pre GFC), the legacy of old worker entitlements (that Geoff Dixon spent an awful lot of time trying to reduce) that where drawn up in the gravy train days of the two airline policy were (arguably) replaced by arrangements more appropriate for the times (in DJ). And AN have been replaced with a sleeker no-frills version in the form of DJ, complete with their "Ansett International" and Kendell CRJ equivalents. Only a few things missing - domestic J, free meals and international recripocal FF benefits. But maybe 2 of those will come one day as well.

-110,000 GR points here (and a free upgrade pass, after just making sapphire!)

I lost bucket loads of points but at the end of the day, IMHO A-NZ were sold a lemon - once a lemon, always a lemon - the lemon is dead, long live the lemon (just dont try and squeeze it looking for wine if you are A-NZ)

'96 - they forked out 475Mil for 50% holding followed by the additional 50% in 2000.

Lets not forget the following points...

News Corp done their best to kill the airline (oh yeah, there was another owner apart from the Kiwis...)
News Corp sold the airline as something it wasn't - a healthy company... 767's grounded because of fatigue cracks, short stock, poor industrial relations to name a few...
A-NZ tried to keep the airline afloat and couldn't - NZ Government had to bail out A-NZ to the tune of 885 Million pacific pesos...
A-NZ stock value crashed - mum and dad investors in NZ wear the brunt of the loss with shares plunging massive amounts...
Mr! & Mrs! share portfolio looks like a pack of hammerheads have been sharpening their teeth on it...
We still pay (correct me if I'm wrong) an Ansett Tax - where's that $$$ gone to?
News Corp - NO RESPONSIBILITY - NO CARE

SIA - I believe that their duty of care may have better than A-NZ, I don't believe that SIA would have bought the airline

@ drron - such one eyed a opinion - Hawkes Bay has some goodies as well ;)

I think the get over it statement is the best one yet in this thread...

Mr!

Having studied Ansett and Air NZ involvement I believe the real issues started with the approval from the relevant authorities for the purchase to go ahead.

One the takeover had happened there was very little chance that Ansett and Air NZ could survive due to their capitalisation issues. Indead Air NZ only survived because of NZ gov't intervention.

Contrary to popular belief Ansett could have (though not guaranteed) survive as a lone entity. All they needed was for an owner not to rip the guts out of them for a while and to modernise some procedures (such as yield management). Unfortunately Air NZ raped and pillaged them even worse than some of the earlier owners.

yeah, I can see that from my dealings with kiwis who never mention the underarm incident, at the first opportunity, ever

Trouble is without the A it's not an AC :p
