Re: The totally off-topic thread

Senator Sam Dastyari was just interviewed on ABC24, having been dining just meters from the Borough Market attack.

Mer Police seem to have very fast response (compared to VicPol at Tullamarine last week).

Due to past terrorism events, they now have dedicated armoured carriers patrolling London.

Well, they have dramatically increased the number of armed response vehicles on London streets who patrol continuously but not quite armoured carriers, yet.

On the news they described it as a Armoured personnel carrier. I don't exactly know what you call them but an article described as a 'armoured police personnel carrier'

Another London Terror attack - June 3rd 2017

it is all becoming everyday, but we shouldn't get inured or terrified. We are planning a trip to the gorillas next year and I am deliberately adding in a Nairobi and Kenyan game reserve component. Their tourism is being affected by terrorist attacks, so I wanted to show solidarity. They are such nice people as well.

I'm heading there next week :)

Now 7 victims confirmed deceased. Borough is a magnet for visitors and Londoners, and this will hit many who have been there and enjoyed the food and the vibe.

Re: Another London Terror attack - June 3rd 2017

Just received this via e-mail from the London Mayor:
There are no words to describe the grief and anger that our city is feeling today.
Tragically, seven people have been killed in this sickening attack, and more than 40 injured, some of them critically.
I am appalled and furious that these twisted and cowardly terrorists deliberately targeted innocent Londoners and visitors to our city who were just enjoying their Saturday night.
I condemn these terrorists in the strongest possible terms. They are barbaric cowards and there is absolutely no justification for their evil and unforgivable actions.
My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims and everyone caught up in this horrific attack.
I'd like to thank our emergency services who bravely tackled the terrorists and helped the injured. I am in close contact with the Met Police Commissioner and senior officers and have attended the government's COBRA security meeting.
I'd urge all Londoners to remain calm and vigilant today and over the days ahead. We are all shocked and angry today but this is our city - we will never let these cowards win and we will never be cowed by terrorism.

Mayor of London

Very sad news again.

Condemning their actions is not going to stop them. This is just the beginning. There is no doubt life will change....

I'm still not sure I agree with everything being labelled a 'terrorist' attack, seems to be too much of a catch all these days.

Another email from the mayor.....
There will be a vigil at Potters Fields Park from 6pm tomorrow to honour the victims of the London Bridge terrorist attack.
The Mayor invites all Londoners - and everyone visiting our city - to come together in solidarity to remember those who have lost their lives, to express sympathy with their families and loved ones and to show the world that we stand united in the face of those who try to harm us and our way of life.
We will never let these cowards win and we will never be cowed by terroism.
Members of the public will be able to lay floral tributes at the flagpoles in the park.

I should have added to that;

Dont keep beating up on Islamic ideology - hey people the root cause is because Islam is the victim!
Hold a benefit concert and a candlelight vigil
Politicians to give soft statements of solidarity, strength peace, but dont mention the Islamic ideology driving terrorism
Arrest a few people for media consumption then quietly release most later
Then rinse and repeat at the next one

...........

8 minutes from from Islamic terrorists killing people to themselves being shot by police.

Lindt and MH128 are symptoms of police being neutered by politicians/judiciary/public who want a softly softly politically correct approach.

Never seen one on the streets and even the Mirror (is that even worth quoting) says there are only two.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Amazing work by the authorities in London. 8 minutes is an incredible response time. Meanwhile 3 years after the fact we're debating if TAG should have been called at the Lindt Cafe, the UK are getting on with the job and adapting to modern terrorism:
