Has anyone purchased any lately - the few I've looked at seem ridiculously expensive. I'd be looking at under $300 for annual multi trip with no excess

Though the first thing in their product disclosure statement is this.

We will not pay for:
claims directly or indirectly arising from or caused by
COVID-19, including the threat or perceived threat, of COVID-19.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

And lack of insurance is why I am not travelling - in case I get stuck by a lightening border closure or quarantine.. So I suspect a lot of the 1/2 price trips will be relatives meeting and staying with family and friends, grandchildren etc. That is why motorhome travel is more sensible, lately. So lucky in NSW when they moved guard testing to daily (was once a week). But I have no faith - because blower tests for air leakages are not being done. - Vertical risers, garbage chutes etc. Or Opal Towers, were grouting had not been done - I wonder how many others were not done.

I was in a similar position recently, when I realised belatedly that my annual multi-trip insurance had lapsed, and I was on the point of making an expensive booking.

Eventually went with “InsureandGo Australia” - having first asked for and received from the travel provider confirmation that any COVID-related cancellations would be refunded by them without penalty.

The annual policy did not quite meet your <$300 criterion but was not much above it.

Might have to check that out. My policy lapses this week. Have been with Columbus for the last few years and didn't even get sent a renewal email this year.

Columbus have suspended their Australian travel insurance policies; that is, they are not issuing new policies at present. (Although I understand you can still buy them in other countries such as the UK.)

From the Columbus Australia website:

Suspension of Travel Insurance Sales

Given the evolving COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic and its unprecedented impact across the world, we have made the difficult decision to suspend sales of our travel insurance products at this time.
