Angry pax declines to Raise Reclined Seat During Service...

I was on the rear bulkhead on a trip from SYD-LAX on the Delta B77W. The bulkhead seats didn't recline and the person in front refused to raise their seat during meal service.

The worst part was that Delta ran out of food during both meal times ...
Sounds horrible. Not sure how many passengers would ever want that row, unless for good access to the potty.

The worst part was that Delta ran out of food during both meal times because the fatty's up-front ordered "special dietary" meals, and then took a serving of the normal meals as well. This meant that all of us in the back row missed out on ALL food during the flight. I asked if the Delta flight assistant would consider serving us first during the second mealtime, but they forgot and got all aggressively-defensive when we stated how unfair it was that some got 4 meals while we got none. So i guess it didn't really matter that the person in front didn't raise their seat-back after-all, and that was the last time we'll ever fly Delta metal.

I've never been on a flight with so many inconsiderate people.
Did you get anything to eat?

It was horrible. Unfortunately there was an issue with our booking through flight centre and our seat selection didn't go through to Delta. They split my wife and I up on the way back in middle seats, which was much worse. It was our honeymoon trip too.

Nope. They offered us a $50 voucher after I complained. It was only valid on Delta flight numbers for 12 months. I had no plans flying on Delta again as they don't go to many destinations from Australia. They didn't respond to any follow up emails I sent. It just annoyed me so much when they told us it was because people up front took their special meals and then grabbed a serving of the normal meal. Probably read about it on some blog as some secret flight hack. It just means others miss out.

I've got other lovely anecdotes of PAX refusing to raise their seat backs. Returning from Bangkok on a QF flight, the man in front refused to raise his seat during mealtime even after the FA asked nicely. I may have "accidentally" woken him twice getting up to stretch. He was loudly farting the whole way too and it stank horrible. Many complaints made from other passengers. FA's said they couldn't do anything.

One way to avoid putting your seat upright is to fall (or pretend to fall) assleep just after the seatbelt sign goes off, or earlier. Cabin crew are reluctant to ask someome asleep to put up their seat even during meal service.
Guess who's gonna be rudely woken up if they did that to me....
Mind you I don't really eat the flight food anyway. I normally eat in the lounges, or get some takeaway....like a roast goose when I was in HK..
It's just a bit of courtesy and if someone else can't even have that basic decency the same will be returned.
I mostly get the emergency seating where there isn't anyone in front. Mostly I get it for free, but on the busy flights I'll pay a little extra to guarantee peace of mind.

When I was a student flying home to Darwin. There was a very drunk and aggressive guy who reclined in front of two young ladies across the aisle during meal service. The FA tried to get him to move without success. The girls took turns flicking food and drink into his hair. I do believe a cigarette was also involved...

You can have my meal anytime! I struggle to eat even the J meals sometimes, I don't know how they can go for 2nds and 3rds in Y!

Not eating can backfire though. On my recent long haul flight, the FA work the person in front of me to ask if he’d put his seat upright for the pre-landing meal. When I refused the meal (I’d eaten enough in the lounge), the FA told the man “never mind. You can recline it again”. Given the man had reclined it as soon as the seatbelt sight had turned off and had left it reclined the entire flight so far, I quickly changed my mind and said “actually, I’d just like the tray. No hot meal.” I’ll never understand why people feel it’s necessary to recline for an entire 13 hour flight.
