Angry pax declines to Raise Reclined Seat During Service...

I'm off to Perth tomorrow, can you please point me to the airline that offers this service?
If you mean little to no recline, then Air Asia, Scoot, I cant remember Tiger but they might be like that too. Plus Ryan Air,

Or even better, some airlines have seats that half recline and the seat base goes forward, so similar effect
That's an interesting thought … if they want to recline, they lose legroom until the person in front also reclines. I like that, because the recliner loses some space in one area as well as getting more space in another. The mechanics to do this properly probably weigh too much, the seat-base would probably have to go up a few cm as well as moving forwards.

These seem to be airlines in far-flung places that aren't relevant to the majority of us, surely?

Tiger , Air Asia and Scoot depart from sydney and many other major cities in Australia, Over the past 2 years majority of my flights have been through Air Asia and Scoot. I live in Sydney. There is also Jetstar that has a reduced recline.

New QR economy seats are like this, although probably more than what I was anticipating. I know TG economy seats do this, but more basic mechanism than the new QR ones.

See here:

Or there are less hi-tech solutions, such as what Delta is doing on aircraft that typically fly <2hrs:

So if you don't want someone reclining in your face domestically, you need to dramatically increase the chances of sitting around at the airport during a 6hr delay?
OK maybe that's not fair on tigerair, a mate of mine commutes to Sydney weekly & reckons they're not late half the time like Jetstar is.

That looks pretty Smurfy in the video, doesn't it?

Your choice to fly to Perth on an aircraft you know has recline. Your options are to select a seat not impacted by recline (for example a bulkhead or exit row). Or to take another form of transport. If everyone reclines your personal space shouldn't be impacted to enjoy IFE or a book.

As does the recliner? No?

They purchased a seat on a plane that has recline :)

You make a great point, walking is a really good alternative; a Recliner wouldn’t be able to get me at least!

I agree with this; it SHOULDN”T. If it didn’t, I’d have no complaints at all; I’d be happy! :)

I guess the point is, it's your choice to fly to Perth or not. (And if you're flying there on an emergency, the seat recline issue will be the last of your concerns).

It doesn't impact on your space, therefore it shouldn't impact on your enjoyment ;) (if it does, that down to aset of circumstances particular to you)

Of course it impacts on my space. How does the fact that someone in front of me is allowed to wind their seat back somehow remove the undeniable & obvious fact that once they do so it’s not possible to use the IFE or read anything larger than a pamphlet?

OK, I’ll flat-out state the obvious. Anyone over 6’ who claims otherwise has either never tried it, or are flat-out lying in defense of their desire to recline.

I'm taller than you! And if I recline my seat viewing of IFE works as intended with the use of the tilting screen. I won't pretned it's my preferred way of travel, knee room can be limited. But the whole recline issue isn't the problem (except for meals).

If the person in front is reclined and you also recline, you can still have you magazine in hand. You lose no overall space.

Unfortunately, it was his seat to recline as he pleased inflight.

However, I know where you are coming from as I have experienced similar on QF during meal service. The FAs will not intervene. Certainly very poor form on his part.
Occasional QF are slack about this, but if you point (literally point) it out to them they will intervene.

Problem is it is a feature that they have paid for which is part of the seat and comfort factor. This is where economy is tough because its about being tolerant and patient and having to deal with other people and their comfort levels as well. For instance i do find it annoying sometimes how some people walk up and down but i know its for their comfort level and also something that makes them feel better. I mean you could even take it further and say if you are in a seat where you have to get up to let someone get out or back in to go to the toilet that they shouldnt do that and not use the toilet and hence not get in the way of anyone else. But the toilets are there to be used and its another service. Now to avoid all this and having to deal with people and potentially just getting your way and what you like, then i presume thats where business and First class comes in.

For instance i usually like getting the window seats and if its a 9 hr or less flight, i usually hold it in and dont go to the bathroom so i dont get in the way or if i have to then i time my toilet run when the other parties go so then its all done at the same time.

No, this "paid for" thing is an invention of the Recliners. They didn't pay anything extra to be able to recline, the recline mechanism just happened to be there.

It's no different to people who operate their motor vehicles in the fast lane at 50km/h in a 70 zone. There's no law stopping them from doing it, they paid their taxes.
Or people who stop in the middle of a footpath to play on their phones. That's not illegal.
Or who stop & have a conversation in a group at the end of an escalator.
Or who have a noisy 'phone call in the middle of a movie at the cinema. They paid for their ticket.

Oh … kay ...

What, and rest it on the top of their seat? Because there's not enough room between your chest & the seat-back in front if you hold it perpendicular to your face, and if it's angled at 45 degrees away from you it's illegible.

Actually they did pay for it, The higher fare airlines have more recline and better comfort seats than the cheaper lower budget airlines. So it is part of the choice of paying more for better seats and part of that better comfort seats is a better recline. Otherwise Airlines wouldnt have their seats able to recline.

That would be like saying you don't pay for a bed in business class, it just happens to be there? You paying for the overall product, which might happen to include recline. Conversely, if the recline was broken, a passenger would be entitled to be moved, or compensated.

There is actually a law against this :)

Because you have also reclined your seat so now the exact same distance (pitch) between your chest and the seat in front is maintained. Plenty of room for your book. The only scenario in which you lose space will be if you refuse to also recline.

No, that's 80 zone or over. Anything under 80, the Recliners can do whatever they want in the fast lane & there are no consequences.

Except you can't read something that your head is looking at, at a 45-degree angle.

Look, I know I'm not going to convince anyone who's convinced themselves that selfish behaviour is acceptable because nobody can stop them from doing whatever the selfish behaviour is. So I think it's time to exit stage left … :)

They purchased a seat on a plane that has recline :)
And I also purchased a seat on a plane that has seat back IFE and a tray table to place food and drinks or play cards or do a Sudoku and I shouldn't be forced into a recline position because of the chronic recliner in front. From memory some seats also have a handle I can use to get up from my seat.

The only thing that is affected by recline is the ability to eat meals.

Anything else... watching tv, reading a book... they can all be maintained if you also recline.

The problem is when people ‘break the chain’ by refusing to recline.

Not so long ago everybody was asked to recline during the movie screenings. Then we used to have to opposite complaint... people who didn’t recline were being selfish :(

I had no such troubles on BA LHR to CAI yesterday. 787 subbed for an A321 NEO so thin seats, no recline and no food (was supposed to be a hot meal, we got half a sandwich). People got angry about that but not the recliners at least.....

Its funny when someone is telling other people to not do what is in their right and part of their purchased seat so that it makes his life easier and then says the other people are the ones who are selfish... :).
