At least now QLD can shut down its covid party hub for AFL players which caused a headline a week.... get that embarrassment off our back as people with brain cancer were denied the same.

I truly hope we never revert to these days, what a year....

Let’s see what happens, but there is one more “high profile” football (rugby league) match for State of Origin. I have no idea how their bubble works.

I think you might prefer the hub. Many have no plans to return to Victoria unless there are family needs. And now they can party with everyone else.

A lot are staying up there for awhile yet. Pre season training starts again in a month or so and some clubs are going to remain in QLD

We don’t want them to stay! :) They can go home now.

Anyway the hub is being shut down according to the QLD government and they will have to find their own way if they do stay. Lots of empty hotel rooms and serviced apartments in the GC for them due to the extended border closures.

They can but why would they return to Melbourne just yet? No more hub so they will be mixing and partying amongst the plebs.

Im just happy we the QLD taxpayers aren’t subsidising their stay for much longer while we keep families locked out :)

I thought the AFL were paying for it.
I'm sure there was Queensland taxpayer money involved in last night's event, but you'd need to go through Right to Information to find out how much and even then it would be "commercial in confidence."

Also, running ads for Queensland tourism was in poor taste when they keep the border closed. South Australia hijacked the ad campaign in Sydney at least...

On the players, they'd normally be doing something post-season for a while anyway so I can't blame them for staying in Queensland, and it will give the Gold Coast Bulletin something to put in the paper other than property developers and beauty salon operators.
