Hong Kong!!

There are reports that Jetstar plans to launch a Hong Kong-based budget airline focused on mainland China routes.

The airline is reportedly in talks with the city's government to apply for authorisation and is seeking majority shareholders of the proposed airline, to conform with Hong Kong laws.

Jetstar already operates flights within Asia through its Singapore-based unit, Jetstar Asia Airways.

Ohhh… if only I had enough money to invest, as I’m a Hong Kong resident :D

More seriously, presuming they’re able to get into the Chinese market, I think they'd actually do really well, just as they have done everywhere else. But now it looks like Qantas is taking over the world (through Jetstar). Watch out BA ;)

Interesting and a little far-fetched me thinks! The existing 3K presence is fairly laughable (bus gates, remote stands etc).

Can't see how they would compete with the multiple China based carriers who all readily discount on mainland routes to pickup business from CX/KA (including HK Airlines/Express which is quite 'Tiger-esque'). As well as the fact that HKers are usually happy to start their mainland trips from Shenzhen and bypass HKIA altogether if the savings are there (which they often are for last minute travel).

Not really, there has to be reason why JQ execs keep on travelling to HKG. I mentioned this a few months ago on some other thread!

Perhaps that was for the PEK torture flights?:p

I bet CX aren't too happy with their OW partner these days!

I don't like the idea at all, only because of my selfishness.

Well I don't like seeing normal QF SYD-HKG routes replaced by JQ SYD-HKG with QF codeshares, and of course available for QFF redemptions .....

That would just make me stick to CX.

Now that you mentioned it... I wonder how well QF87/88 is doing. It's already operated by an A330, so just change the seats a bit, give it a new paint job, and you've got a JQ connection to HKG.

I wonder if the JQ services based out of HKG will earn AsiaMiles :p

I was thinking that a lot of people rely on earning points through AsiaMiles out of HKG, but then remembered that lately CX has been offering really cheap fares that don’t earn a thing, or very little. So it seems that’d be a good market for JQ to get it on, and who’s to say CX won’t take up a share in the new airline, so they can keep their premium service with points, and push the cheap pax to JQ.
