I can apply for a new Amex card now - 18month wait finished in December (i must have missed my calendar alert).

I'm looking at two cards to apply for:
1 - Amex Velocity Platinum using my GF's referral link and score a total of 140k velocity points which converts to 90.3k KrisFlyer.
2 - Amex Platinum 150k amex bonus points converting to 75k Krisflyer. + i have a trip to USA end of march and could use the lounge passes and other bonuses

Will i get auto declined applying for the 2nd card (Amex platinum) within 1 month or shorter?
I remember they don't let you increase your credit card balance within the first 3 months of approval.

Also, maybe a long shot.. but are there any glitches in their system if i can get approved for 2 cards within a day or 2 and get both bonus points?

imo chances are slim you will get bonus points for both... though never tried myself
i would do option 2.. lots of perks & lounge access to be enjoyed while you are in the US

guess it depends on what you want more, points or the other travel perks

I would say Amex Platinum ( option 2).

I received this from a fellow AFFer sometime ago , but has some pretty useful information.

An implicit benefit of the card that isn't advertised but you may see referred to in the forums is that although only the primary card holder is 'supposed' to gain lounge access, additional card holders get VA lounge access in practice as well, even when not with you (it's meant to be just primary, but you'll see it referred to on forums as common) --- so kind of like '2 for the price of 1', which I thought might be relevant to your situation. Of course, each card holder also gets one guest into the lounge...

Also note that you also get 2 Priority Pass mem'ships (good value if you travel internationally), as each can also bring a free guest, so that's a family of 4 in for free. You also get Delta lounge access when travelling on Delta, Plaza Premium access, and also AMEX lounge access for similar scenario (not so sure about Delta guests) - these mem'ship only require either of you to show card (PP requires PP card in your name). Note, other than for PP, all additional card holders get into lounge. Ie, included lounge access is, depending how you use, quite a bit more valuable than simply VA lounge mem'ship.

Further, AMEX travel credit is good value - $450 from the Platinum charge card, and what you do, is also apply for the free Platinum reserve card (only available I believe to Plat charge card holders now) and you get a further $400 travel credit (not well advertised benefit)

The other thing I didn't value initially was Gold status with Marriott, Hilton, Shangri-La etc, but although we only do a little international travel, that's been surprisingly beneficial (note, ALL additional card holders get this status, which is helpful for either one of you travelling on your own), as has the Accor Plus silver mem'ship and free night (we stayed in one of the Sofitel's for free plus food at 50% discount) - - Fine Hotels and Resorts is a circa $250+ saving each time you use it (although only for primary card holder).

Even if i don't get the bonus points for both, what are my chances of getting the platinum card before the last week of March, will Amex auto reject the application seeing i just applied for a card in Feb?

I don't mind holding both cards until the bonus Velocity points are posted to my account. Once it does I can tell them to close the Velocity card.

Thanks @knagelli, thats exactly why i want the platinum. The value of giving status and lounge access to additional card holders is awesome ( i can pass it to my parents). This article gives a great review of the platinum card : Get up to 150k bonus points with the American Express Platinum Card

This is strange.. I applied for the Velocity Platinum card using my GF's referral link and got application referred.

Then i applied for the Platinum Card and it was instant approved...

Fingers cross, the Velocity Card is approved first because I would like the extra bonus points from that card.
I don't mind not getting the platinum bonus.

got my platinum card yesterday, didn't expect it to be that quick - well done AMEX.
I called them this morning to see what's going on with my Velocity Plat application (before i activate my card) and they said it's been declined.
Not sure if entered something wrong but it sucks - i wanted to try and see if I can cheat the system to get both bonus points but i guess it backfired.
Won't be able to give you anymore updates.

haha so approved for the charge with no limit but not with a set limit lol :)
Yup my thought exactly. I also requested the minimal 3k limit on the VP card.
Really not sure what went wrong and you know, they will never tell you.. "you will get a notice in the mail in the next few days" ..Making it seem like the letter will tell you the reason but all it will say is "Sorry, you're not good enough, maybe try again in 3 months".

What is the process to get the companion Platinum Reserve Card? Is it something that requires a formal application with another credit check etc or is it a formality like applying for a supplementary Card where basically nothing is required?

I've asked this question and 2 different people at Amex tell me that Priority Pass does not include guest access, if I brought a guest, I will be charged $30 odd USD.

Are you sure about being able to take a +1 at any PP lounge?

I managed to do a product transfer from Velocity Plat to Reserve - they did it because of all the stuffing around in getting the Reserve application to me - told me they would usually have followed the procedures for a new application including credit check.

I did get credit checked for the Charge and it hit my credit score 400 points and took more than a year to make up.

They should offer the Reserve as part of the Charge application process to get it done with only one credit check. Guess it's a 'hidden' feature they don't want to advertise widely.

yes, the platinum charge personal PP card allows 1x guest + yourself.
The platinum charge business PP card is only free for yourself, all guests are charged

Thank you. Such a simple question but no one at amex had a straight answer.

I have a plat charge business which explains why some staff was telling me it was free only for myself. Considering I pay more for the Amex Business, it is quite disappointing

Yes but you can have 99 supps and a PP for each I'd say?
And you get 55 days interest free vs 44
