AMEX Ultimate - Bonus points on signup?

I've been searching the discussion board for peoples experiences wth the AMEX Ultimate and notice that from time to time AMEX seem to lay on 10's of thousand of FF points for new card holders. Do these deals come up often?

I'm in the market for something to replace my standard ANZ - Qantas visa given the points conversion is so miserable.

They seem to offer it about once a year IME.
Ive managed to get it two years in a row - first time late 2008 or early 2009 for 35K and again in March this year for 50K.
I havn't bothered taking up the free flight offer though.
