That's incredibly useful information. For an uninitiated like myself, can you highlight the relevant bit the says this fare isn't restricted to just QF selling it?

Hope this image can help you lodge complaint , your fare basis is OSQWC which is based on O class , this copy from travel Agent system (AMEX use 1S)

This is fare basis which didnt mentioned QF only and this also copy from travel agent system

I received a call this morning from a customer relations manger from the travel and lifestyles services. She was generous with her time and explained the situation to me.

The short version is Amex did not have access to the "Spirit of Australia" sale fares. She explained that they only have access to the fares an airline loads into their system. Why QF didn't load it into their system is something they are looking into internally but is a confidential matter.

She agreed that Amex would refund the difference between the $450 credit and the fair paid, which I thought was rather generous as it was slightly more than the fare difference when it comes to booking direct with QF verse Amex.

She told me that if I'm ever aware of a fare discrepancy again to contact her directly. I did mention that others have seen similar, but without specific examples it isn't something she can investigate. Therefore I would encourage others to post to this thread with screen shots and I'd be happy to share it with her. Alternately I could ask her if she is ok with my sharing her direct contact details via private messages.

We then had a general chat about various Amex benefits for both the QF Ultimate and the Platinum card. She was genuinely interested in both my positive and negative feedback. Some of the discussion points which I think will be of interest to people here

I said I had heard that some people with the QF Ultimate card were having it switched to a credit for direct spend with QF. I asked if this was something new. She told me this was targeted at people who have had an extension of their $450 credit to the end of March 2021. This was a once off and not going to be a permanent change.

I gave feedback bout the Mr Porter/Net a Porter statement credit for the Platinum card. Essentially that it seemed poor value with the high shipping charges and FX fees for Mr Porter. That I thought most people would buy a pair or two of socks that gets shipped from overseas just to use the credit and that doesn't seem very environmentally friendly either.

If you have both a Reserve and Platinum card with individual travel credits, they should be able to be combined. Call and ask.

They are looking at allowing you to use the travel credits with FHR hotels. Apparently they've had lots of requests for this and they are working towards it. Possibly something towards the end of the year. This would be a fantastic enhancement in the real sense.

I expressed disappointment at losing status with Shangri La hotels. She said this was a benefit that wasn't widely used at all. Makes sense with the lack of footprint in Australia.

I expressed disappointment at the loss of PP restaurant credits. She said the thought people would be more interested in eating in lounges. Explained how lounge food is generally pretty average and the ability to have a decent meal was a great benefit. I put it to her that perhaps it was being abused and suggested putting a limit on use per day and bringing it back would be a good idea.

She asked about the Accor Plus benefit. I said the free night is great, but it would be better if status given was higher than silver.

Regarding the limited use of travel last year, I said the $400 Woolworths/Coles benefit was a good way to justify the cost. I did say that Amex missed a trick by being a little slow with that as I suspect many people landed up ditching their cards prior to that being announced.

All in all, I feel positive after the phone conversation. It went for almost 35 minutes. I feel I now have a contact at Amex I can go to for future concerns and feedback.

So all in all, I'm satisfied with the outcome. The whole airlines loading inventory into agents systems seems a little murky to me, but if that's the way it works, so be it. I did notice QF has a sale to LEA from PER. I checked some random dates and the sale fares were available via Amex Travel.

If I got this responses I would appreciate that, her answer is correct and more professional
BTW, could I have her detail?

Would you mind sending me a PM letting me know what you want to contact her about? I might just check with her first if she is ok with my passing on her contact details too.

Oh and one other point I raised was the 3% FX fee. She said that was the single most complained about thing. Would seem they don't have too much intention of changing that.

My guess is there's some issue with Amex Travel's registration in the Qantas Channel. That would then result in Qantas not loading the appropriate sale fares. If you are in contact with the customer service manager I would suggest that to them.

Hi @Daver6, I would appreciate if you could provide me the details of your contact at AmEx as not only would I like to keep on the issue of not being able to use my travel credits on sale fares or on other travel spend as some folks have been given, but that I have not been getting the bonus point per dollar for Qantas flight purchases for several months now which is a published benefit of the card. I've contacted AmEx customer service who say they will look into it and get back to me but I never hear from them afterwards.

Sounds like time to lodge a complaint with Amex, listing the calls and the inaction/lack of feedback.

I presume you have the Ultimate card? I've had that issue with bonus points not posting. A call sorted that out. Once it was due to the following scenario. I had booked a QF flight and received bonus points. However, the flight was cancelled and funds refunded. They claw bad the base earn rate but not the bonus points. Then next time you are due bonus points for a QF flight they subtract that off what you're in debt with from the previous flight. Could this be your scenario?

As for the sale fares issue, can you post dates and screen shots to this thread so I can collate and give this feedback to my contact please?

I just found this thread. I need to book some flights via Amex Travel to use my $450 Qantas Travel Credit (Ultimate card) and wanted to take advantage of the current Qantas domestic sale prices. However, they are not available on the Amex travel website. Instead of $119 per person for a one-way flight between Coffs Harbour and Brisbane, Amex is charging $169. That is a $200 fare difference on a return trip for 2 people. I've searched for other destinations as well, but none of the sale fares are reflected. Amex is charging the regular fares. It's the Easter long weekend and I need to make this booking by 5 April, because that's the last day I can cancel my card before having to pay the $450 again. The restricted usage options of the Qantas travel credit has become a real pain. Not being able to use more than one travel credit per booking is something they should definitely revisit, considering how many people have had multiple credits pile up after refunded credits from cancelled bookings and by not being able to fly for such a long time.

I attach screenshots of the same flights on the Qantas website and Amex Travel site.

I've passed on this example to my contact at Amex Travel. They can't even claim it's a QF only sale as other OTAs have the $119 fare.

I have been in touch with Amex Travel but have had no luck. They claim they did not have access to the sale fares. Here is their first reply:

"We get our airfares directly from the airline, and the vast bulk of the time, we have the same airfares available on our website as the airline does.

On occasion however, the airline may release fares that can only be booked through them, and not through any third party.

We had a look in our reservation system, and the cheapest one way fare we can see is AUD169.00, as per your email, subject to availability.

We are sorry that we couldn't fulfill your request, and we hope you reach out to us in the future if you have any further queries."

I emailed back saying that wasn't a valid excuse, as other third parties (travel websites and agencies) had the sale fares on offer as well, not just Qantas itself.

Their reply to that was more of the same:

"We can only sell the fares available through our website. Unfortunately we are not able to price match.

Kindly note that all travel agencies have different contracts with the airline and sometimes there are fare available through the airline website directly to which we don't have access to.

We are sorry we are not able to provide with the answer you were hoping for."

Well, I for one am not sorry to get rid of this card. It has caused me way too much stress this past year, being stuck overseas and not being able to use the travel credit.
