AMEX SPG Promo's - likelihood of another soon?

Hi all,

I realise this might be akin to asking for tomorrow's Lotto numbers, but bear with me...

Last year there was an AMEX SPG promo, whereby the rate doubled from 1000->330 SPG points to 1000->660 SPG points. I really only got into frequent-stay programs last year, so I'm wondering if this happened in previous years as well?

Reason I ask is - I have a number of AMEX MR points I want to transfer to SPG for a trip coming up in a bit under 2 months, and if there's a good chance of another promo, I'd love to take advantage of it. I also don't want to wait too long and miss out on accommodation either...so it's a bit of a balancing act.

Anyone potentially shed some light on the possibility of another promo (or even a HHonors one)? Thanks.

It didn't quite double... went from 330 to 600.

From what I understand, this was a mistake. Amex honoured it, but if it was indeed a mistake then I suspect it's unlikely we'll see it again.

Could be wrong, but I thought I read on the AMEX website (during my points laundering operation as suggested by Mal) that the 1000->600 points was actually a promotion, rather than a mistake.

Yes, but it is a shame they were not in the opposite order. Would have been really nice if SPG had followed Everyday Spend.

That's how they worded it once they realised they had made a mistake.

The initial brochures/publications indicated the 1000:600 to be permanent, rather than temporary.
