Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

They may also hide behind the money laundering act by requesting all these documents. Be interesting How they react if i don't provide anything, or if i provide only some of the documents, as in my case not everyone has all those documents.

It is the AML/CTF compliance requirements that is forcing AMEX to collect this information, there is no 'hiding behind'

this is an administrative PITA for AMEX with no potential for any gain. Any idea that AMEX has some ulterior motive at their expense to collect this information is nonsense.. AMEX already had the personal details fo supplementary cardholders and can market them to death, and everyone knows the easiest/cheapest way to collect informaiton is to offer them a free ipad to enter a survery.

As for AMEX asking for payslips for Supplementary cardholders, IMO they are assuming it is husband and wife, and therefore they think thats what they need to do post bankiing royal commission panic. If anyone doesnt send this informaiton, they aint going to demand it.

However if you dont send ID for the supplementary cardholders, my guess is they will eventually freeze those cards.

If they believe people may be using sup cards to stack promotions, then not a surprise to be cracking down on people with a lot

Tell them nothing !

They might need to, have the right to under an Act but let’s not be sheep.

Too much of our personal info is already out there.

I can’t think of a card I need that badly they couldn’t cancel on me and it won’t be the end of the wtold.

Well i thought if i ignore the request, it would get lost or forgotten.
But i received this today in the mail

Might need to contact amex and see if i can get a resolution

Because half of the supp card holders dont get payslips, not all live here

Update:

Well decided to make the dreaded call, to try and explain the situation and negotiate what info to provide

I was going to say, none of the members are working so, payslips arent possible.
As for ID
All but one can be provided as they are residing overseas
I see no problem with a supp residing overseas, also i could argue that at the time they were living here and unless im mistaken there is no rule that says supps have to be residing in aus nor do i have to let them know

Ensured i Got through to an aussie
After, that person contacting the relevant team, got told, i can ignore the letter

Obviously i questioned extensively and made sure it was noted on file so i wouldnt have the dramas of having cards cancelled,
Got reassured it was fine, and that all checks had been done, and was fine

Their reason was possibly because the letter may have been sent out between the application of the supp and the approval !

Funny thing is the requests for info were all cards that were years old

oh well,,
very relieved

I applied for an amex supp card with my initial application a few months ago no questions asked just approved whereas did the same with bank west and they wanted her blood group type(joke).

I applied for a sup over the phone last week and was asked for drivers license number and DOB.

Received a follow up call asking "if that person was actually in Australia". Said no, the agent submitted the card "for approval" and gave me the green light straight away.

Waiting for the card to arrive but looks like a fairly useless compliance process. Haven't heard anything about my existing supplementary cards.

UPDATE:

well this is interesting,

tried to make a couple of big purchases yesterday, card declined,

tried the other amex, also declined,

you guessed it, account suspended!

I was furious for about 5 mins, called up amex got through to an aussie, demanded it be reinstated immediately, got smugly told until those docs are provided nothing can and will be done,

demanded a supervisor, gave up after 20 mins on hold,

went straight home and submitted a complaint to AFCA, including a huge compensation demand

point to note I was specfically told to ignore the letter twice now, including confirmation from the "relevant department" as per

normally id be furious for ever, but given dealings ive had with Amex staff from both aus and Philipines, it doesnt surprise me,

I dont have any huge bills to pay via amex in the next month or so, so I will have to use other means which means loss of points,

the sheer inconvience, incompetence of staff, and lies is what is making me the most angry
and I intent to keep on escalating to AFCA until I get a satisfactory resolution,

Executive Customer Relations or whatever it's called. I've sent something to them earlier this week but they haven't responded so I might need to snail mail them like I usually do.

Got this in the post today

I love it how they dont even acknowledge their F up, and are doing me a favour by extending me 14 days for the account

ill be escalating it with the ombudsman tomorrow

Thanks for your reminder - forgot I had to lodge something with AFCA for them too.

How's your experience with the exec team? That Jason bloke assigned to my case was condescending as hell.

the above is the first communications ive had with them, but given their response so far, yep, im expecting condescending and arrrogance....

putting my ego/pride/principal aside
I do want to keep my amex when it comes down to the bottome line, after travel credit, the odd statement credit+small shop, im confidentally ahead

I do notice that they have said "amex terms and conditions state that we can cancel your account at any time" a few times now,
so at the end of the day, I have some points banked up (not a huge amount), if they cancelled my acccount, then the points would be another issue to deal with
although I know Im right in principal, im thinking of just providing the info they want and putting it behind me

Different sets of circumstances I suppose. All my targeted offers seem to have dried up some 12-18 months ago and looking at this trend, it will become more difficult for me to get my annual fees back based on the credit offers. Those travel credit is a curse as well as you're effectively forced to go somewhere (gets old after 10 years) or sell them at a discount on OzB. The Platinum concierge is becoming next to useless to get anything booked/researched/organised.

Cancel and reapply in 18 months. Offers will coming rolling in!
