Holy moly.
Had no idea. I have a no annual fee Gold+Ascent credit card through my professional association.
I just clicked through and ordered myself a no annual fee Platinum Edge as a supplementary card.
Thanks!

Strange, the free companion plat edge should be available to the gold charge card not the gold ascent credit card. Strange if this loophole works as the plat charge is $145 via association.

That happens to everyone when you apply for an additional card to your one (i.e. supplementary card for a spouse). You are meant to select your card type.

Your supplementary application will be automatically declined by Amex when you select a card product different to your current one.

Awww :(

I just noticed the $0 for first year doesn't apply if you are transferring from existing account! If my memory is correct that wasn't the case before (i could be wrong though)

Has anyone been able to transfer existing card to plat rewards & get the $80 waived?

But you can add Amex edge plat for yourself before your spouse. That is also fee free.
