This offer has been extended to the 1st of August 2016.
A great card to be had and the 120,000 bonus points alone is enough to make up the annual fee for the first year.
I can also confirm that you get $300 travel credit.

Sharing my referral link below as the bonus points would very welcome for me and my wife, in getting to travel on a trip over seas we have been planning for ten years.

Well American Express has extended their offer again. This time to 1 August 2016.

They must have found that referral is the best way to get and keep new customers.

Whilst there is $1200 annual fee, there is 120000 Membership Rewards points on offer, which makes it very worthwhile. Those points can be converted to amazing 10 airline partners as per below:

Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe Amex no longer offer the Platinum Edge Card (as a free additional card).

Absolutely correct, and following some discussion in another thread, I ran AMEX about a month ago to attempt to get a companion Edge and was told that it is the Reserve only.

So in summary, as it stands, the only free companion card for the Charge is the Reserve - the Edge is not an option. Pity really.

Reserve is better than edge in the flights you have access to via Virgin, an expanded list of destinations. But earn not as good for some types of expenses such as supermarket. Getting a free return flight to NZ a year is a better outcome for me than the bonus points I would earn from the Edge for certain expenses. YMMV.

Note that the list of features in post #183 should be amended as Accor plus and platinum are no longer a benefit, and that the travel credit has increased to $300 to (partly) compensate for this.

Totally correct, the Reserve's free flight destination list is more expansive than the Edge. Unfortunately though the earn profile on the Reserve is exactly the same as the Charge.

The Edge on the other hand has a complimentary earn profile to the Charge - ie the Edge offers 3pts/$ at supermarkets where as the Charge and the Reserve on offer 1pt/$. For the ultimate combo and 2 free flights per year one could of course have both :). Horse's for course of course!

not much to say other than.

120K point bonus.
3 points on restaurants
2 points on travel
1 point on other stuff.

And use that amex concierge like your personal assistant!, there's nothing they won't do.

Much appreciated ladies and gents.

I used your link and got approved @billbro so look out for 20k. I hope she says yes!

Hey, I just popped on here as I was wondering who gave me the referral.

Thank you so much - I'm fairly hopefully she says yes, given I spent 5 months on picking the diamond (but I couldn't decide and ended up showing her the pictures recently...) but it's a good thing I showed her as I had to scrap the patented Asscher cuts I had picked...

that the travel and accommodation is now under the 3 points per dollar category. It is still under the 2 points category on the Amex website. Maybe it's an added benefit for referrals or maybe it is a mistake? I've read through a lot of the thread and haven't seen it mentioned.

Looks like there's a new benefit, it's kind of buried in the back of the latest copy of Departure - there's now Plaza Premium lounge access for the card holder and one guest. Could be a workaround when you've given out your other Priority Pass and another supplementary cardholder would like lounge access.

Here's my referral link for anyone's still have yet to sign up a card:

Noticed the new lounge benefit too, nice to have a backup in Sydney given the size of the Amex lounge, and a Brisbane option. Supplements Priority Pass well in that respect. Not sure why there aren't more PP lounges in Aus.

All the benefits actually make the annual fee not that steep. I would love to try this card, the gold status with the hotel chains is a good perk.
Unfortunately im already holding the AMEX Qantas Ultimate so no 120k points on offer, deal breaker, sigh.

Amex is known to hand out points to existing card holders despite the T&C says otherwise. Worst case scenario is get the card then ask for a pro rata refund if the points don't go your way.
