Platinum Reserve companion card!

Holy...I applied for the plat charge card and while speaking to the cards folks they talked me through the benefits of the Platinum Reserve card. Other than the free flight I don't really understand the benefit of actually carrying the card as I never carry a balance (so the fact that it's a credit card is worth nothing to me). Anyway, over the course of the conversation, the girl I was speaking to said that there is currently a signup bonus on the Reserve card of 100,000 MR points. When I asked if I would qualify (given I had already received a signup bonus for the plat charge card) she said that other than a few professional organisations, the only way to get this card is via the charge so yes I would. I didn't sign up for it (was debating between it and the Edge that everyone raves about). I did make a couple of subsequent calls and received mixed messages, another lady told me possibly 100K, likely 50K and one individual said I definitely got bad information and asked if I could provide a name so he could educate the staff.

Anyway, I opted for the Reserve, given the better flight options, spent the $1,500 for the promo and thought nothing of it. Boom, 100K bonus points posted! So, apologies for the rambling message, anyone considering the Reserve as a companion card, ask if the signup bonus is still running and if the answer is no, check with a few folks. From memory I thought it ran until sometime in April or early May.

Loving this Amex MR thing, I might actually have to keep this damnably expensive card!
 
If you got just 100K points, then that is for the Platinum Charge Card(PCC). That is the current offer.

If you got 100K(PCC) + another 100K for the Platinum Reserve Card, then that is something new

Could you confirm which of the above two applies for you?
 
Wow that's an amazing offer wish that was available when I applied. I don't use my Reserve other than the free flight and have it available to continue earning bonus points eg on restaurant spend should my charge card spend exceed $300k & bonus points on charge would no longer apply.

Thanks, but I will have to apply through my PA to get the annual fee discount. The 100k MR for the reserve is the big news here and may need a phone call or two to see if you are the luckiest Amex customer around or others can also get what would appear improbable at first glance.

How did they get you to sign up for the Reserve? Was it over the phone, online or did you have to wait for the usual lucky dip of receiving a form in the mail to send back to them?

They mailed me the form and I faxed it in. It's funny, Amex is amazingly quick at posting points and issuing cards but some of their process is a little archaic.

Yeah, it's basically only available as a companion card to the plat charge card and some professional associations (I.e. CPA) still offer it for whatever reason

This is awesome!!!

I spoke to Amex and they said that there is no offer for the additional points on the Reserve Card if you are already a Platinum Charge Card(PCC) owner :(

However, if you add a Supplementary card(first only) to the Platinum Reserve card as a PCC owner, you will get 3000 additional points.

I'd try calling again at some point. As I said in the initial post, I had a different answer from three different different individuals. Shawna was one of the individuals (the one who said I might get 100K or 50K) I spoke to, if that helps
 
Thanks for the tip calgarychris! I've had the form for the Plat Reserve sitting on my desk for a few weeks. Looks like I should give them a call and send it in ASAP!
 
I rang AMEX about this one a couple of days ago and no deal. I'll try again at some point - never hurts to ask a couple of times. Anyone else other than than the OP had any success with this?
