Amex Platinum Charge Card 75,000 Bonus for New Approvals (valid to March 2011)

Like everyone else I've joined the queue of people chasing up the 75k points. I'm being told that it'll take up to 3 weeks for the escalation to be looked at, and so points will take longer than that!

No surprised, but disappointing to see that so called "Platinum Service" is hardly platinum at all.

Does anyone know if Platinum Charge Card holders are eligible for the bonus 30,000 points on the Platinum Reserve Credit Card (which is free if holding the charge card) for spending $500 in the first 2 months as well?

Would be interested to know. Thanks

I wouldn't think so. Isn't that for new paid applications, only?

Can't see anything in the T&C. Obviously it's probably not Amex's intention for anyone to redeem both but was wondering if anyone had tried and what the outcome was.

Can't see how you can try as they are two separate applications.

1/ 30K IF you apply online via particular link.

2/ Free if you apply via a form you get from having the Charge Card.

Only way to try would be to ring and ask....and I am pretty sure sure I know what the response will be.

My 75k posted today well within the period they said you need to wait... :)

Had scheduled a reminder in my calendar to chase them up in 2 weeks as based on the posts in this thread I had assumed I was going to need to.

No problems here. Paid my council rates on day 1 and on the 3rd day the 75k bonus points posted and I transferred them successfully straight away. Nice platinum service without hassles.

Seems like you guys are pretty lucky. I waited well over 10 weeks and then had to chase them, and then it took another 1 week.

But the having to chase them ONLY once is already an improvement on what I've had to deal with previously when I had a plat credit AMEX. I was used to chasing them multiple times and people promising to call me back but never do etc...

I got mine posted today. Took 3 phone calls and about 6 weeks.
Once again they blamed everything on marketting.

The thing is the call centre seem to be acutely aware that the timeliness of the posts are an issue. When I mentioned it to them they cut me off mid-sentence saying they'll get on to it and apologised straight away.

The email crew on the other hand were a different issue... they are boarderline useless...

Hi Guys,

Just wondering when applying for the AMEX Plat charge, do they actually ring up the employer etc?

I am already a member for AMEX since 2004 and I currently hold an edge plat amex. Am I still eligible for the 75000 bonus points?

Thanks,
K.

Hi k3nnis,
I would think yes to the first question,....and yes you are to the second.:)

Thanks for the info. How about if I am 10k short a year on the salary, say 90k. I wonder if they will OK that one? I have been with amex since 2004 and paid every bill on time :)

k3nnis,
Just apply and let your record speak for it,s self.....at least you will find out how hard & fast they are with their rules

good luck. p.s .I think you still need to apply on the net to get the points, not on the phone

Cheers M.P.

Thanks MP. I'm not sure if I should put 90000 for the annual income on the form or just put 100000???

Thanks. I suppose they won't reduce the $900 fee when we first signup? Only applies on renewals correct?
