AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

This enrol link won't work for me. I keep getting error saying "502 BAD GATEWAY".
Do i need to do anything before enrolling to the Hotel Status?

Also, does the hotel status and Accor Plus membership renew every year as long as i hold the Platinum card?

Not sure about 'bad gateway' issue, but yes, hotel status and Accor Plus mem'ship does renew every year.

Were you talking to Amex or to Chubb?
I think it’s best to ask the insurer directly, however I’ve tried in the past relating to being covered if the supplier doesn’t accept Amex and they merely repeated the PDS wording which wasn’t my specific issue.... I wanted advance acceptance not “if I can demonstrate Amex not accepted” blah blah.
I can't recall - as I clearly met their eligibility criteria for that particular trip, so I didn't dwell too much on it at the time.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

using points & paying taxes is covered.
they might ask (not sure) to show that you did transfer the points out from amex to the FF account perhaps?
2x one ways is also covered provided you are starting & finishing in AU. this I have confirmed with them as i do this a lot
I will call AMEX/Chubb directly, but before I did, I wanted to remind myself what it says in the relevant T&Cs, see below:

Cover is effective for each Trip only when: (a) You pay the full fare for a return Trip on Your American Express Platinum Card; or (b) You pay using American Express Membership Rewards points, frequent flyer points; or (c) You use Your Travel Benefit. The Trip must be a return Trip and commence and end in Your Country of Residence. Cover is not activated until a return ticket has been purchased. Important: One-way Trips are not covered.

Interesting that they have told you that 2* one-way trips are covered, given above wording.

Point b) appears ambiguous as well re where points originate from too.

Here is chubb's reply from June 2019...

Hi Daft,

Thanks for your email & apologies for the delayed response. Subject to the terms, conditions & exclusions, there is no expectation to book the tickets in 1 single transaction, the only requirement is as long as you've paid the actual airfares of your return trip by using your Platinum Charge Card Account / Frequent Flyer Points / Travel Credit / Combination of these 3, you automaticallly become eligible for complimentary travel insurance & is available to Any Card Member, including any Supplementary Card Member, their Spouse & their legally dependant Children up to & including the age of 24.

Anyone tried enrolling in The Travel Collection with an Australian Platinum card?
It's a discount travel program a bit like the IAP one but offering different airlines and also discount on economy tickets. Supposedly it's only for US card holders but I'm wondering if it'll work with Aussie cards as well.

Never heard of this one before. It seems like the US version of the card comes with a lot of different benefits.
I might give it a shot and try to enroll to see if it works.

anyone made use of the roadside assistance with the platinum charge card?
Attempted to use it once, I learned that it was ROADSIDE assistance and not Driveway assistance.
Had a flat battery and called for a jumpstart - they wouldn't come out. So called RACV batteries and had a new battery installed within half an hour.

You couldn’t push it onto the roadway? Maybe it was in a basement carpark, or something?

Where did you find the info on this particular benefit? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the AmEx site.
