AMEX platinum Accor plus reinstated

Bit annoying that the new metallic card will come with a new number rather than just your existing card number, I guess that's a security issue where they wouldn't want 2 identical cards floating around. But it means I need to change direct debits and as I booked some airfares with my existing card, I will need to keep the old card as sometimes airlines will ask to verify the credit card used to make the booking.

Also wonder how the new metallic card will work with paypass. I read that the US card members had issues with their metal cards...

You can apply A/C CARD under your name with new metallic card, I just rang them couple minutes ago.

Ordered my shiny metal Platinum Charge card, A+ membership and AFR subscription tonight as I have decided that I will hold onto it (and the companion Reserve) for one more year...

I will get my AUD950 AF back with -

Charge travel credit - AUD300 (already received)
Reserve travel credit - AUD400 (already received)
One free night accommodation using A+ - say AUD200
A couple of PP lounge visits - say AUD50
Total - AUD950

With a few decent statement credits etc (which were thin on the ground last year), I should hopefully be well in front or even at worst.

I doubt I will be paying AUD1200 next year however....

Is anyone able to shed any light on how some Platinum card members have reduced annual fees? I assume some members do through professional associations. Thanks

Although Accor Plus is back, it now comes with Silver status. Previously it was available with Platinum status.
Yep that is a major downgrade. If Law NSW $950 rate goes to $1,450 with Accor Silver I doubt the figures stack up.

Anyone know what the deal is for existing Accor plus members if they sign up to the reinstated benefit? Do we get an extra free night? Guessing no refund of fees paid.

Spoke with Amex and the Accor Plus doesn't come in until you have paid your annual fee under the new pricing structure, and then only from the expiry of your current membership.

I'm with CPA Australia and their website has been updated to show a $1200 discounted annual fee for the charge card. Amex confirm this is the new rate. Stacks up ok for me with the 2 travel credits and accor plus, I have the same priority pass benefit from Citi Prestige so don't place any value on that.

Have just renewed at $1,200 and was told that while I'll only get a $300 travel credit, I will be eligible for Accor Plus and the AFR subscription. I was also able to initiate the enrollment for each of these online, not that that guarantees anything.

Hmm interesting, I paid my annual fee back in March but have enrolled/applied online for both Accor Plus and the AFR subscription. Will see if I actually get it.

I signed up for the AFR, not the accor plus as it won't run concurrently anyway. My fee not due for a while and I've already used my credit on this card so I am unable to test any of it aside from the AFR. Funnily enough in signing up for AFR it gave me lots of choices of cards to use, most of which were not platinum charge (includes reserve and explorer).

Same on the AFR - I had like 10 cards to choose from.

Does the Accor Plus membership include Raffles and Fairmont hotels, recently acquired by Accor?

It would be nice to have an overall Platinum Charge 'Enhancement' thread to discuss all of the changes.... Maybe the mods could rename this thread?

As my annual fee is due next week, I called to see what is going on as I have an ex PA card.

For those who have a discounted annual fee (current and ex PA cards), the annual fee will increase from $950pa to $1200pa but this will apply from 01 November 2018. Those who have AF renewals prior to that date will still pay $950pa for the next year but will not get the increased travel credit (but the old $300). All renewals on 01 November 2018 and later will pay the higher fee and will get the increased travel credit (the new $450).

I assume the same regime will apply to those on the normal card, but at $1200pa and $1450pa accordingly.

The other new benefits are available now to all customers, including the Accor Plus offer.

I assume the 'value' is in the free night of accommodation in the Accor Plus offer? Otherwise, it looks no different to the other free hotel loyalty schemes....

What’s a PA card please?

I received an email advising that dining benefits were available at Fairmont and Swissotel Hotels in the Asia Pacific region, along with status benefits. No mention of the complimentary night being available.

I currently pay $349 to renew Plat status each year - Silver status for free with no room upgrade and no breakfast will cost me more than the total $1,450 ann fee!

I like you have been able to negotiate retention of Platinum status in the years since AMEX dropped the benefit. Paying for plat status is worth more to me than the complimentary membership with silver status. Need to figure out how to combine them.

I understand it should work OK as long as you hold the card face-up

Wait are you saying the AFR is free for Amex Explorer?

Just wondering if I am an existing Amex holder and change to AP, will I still get the 120k points?
